From the official Kayo Dot website:

"The album is quite different than any previous Kayo Dot outing, featuring an unusual instrumentation for this band (bass guitar, orchestral percussion, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, french horn, synths, organ, violin, and vocals). There's hardly any guitar this time around, and the overall aesthetic has been referred to as "goth fusion," combining elements of early Cure, Faith and the Muse, and Bauhaus with Herbie Hancock's psychedelic album Sextant, and Scott Walker's recent album The Drift. The music is more rhythmically oriented than any previous Kayo Dot work, was recorded mostly live (similar to 2006's Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue), and brings back some of the aggression absent from 2008's Blue Lambency Downward."

How about the new style, lads? At first I noticed there was this weird "emptiness" to the sound, which I figure comes from the lack of guitars. Kayo Dot of course has experimented a lot with emptiness/ space before, most notably on DAWCT and Tartar Lamb's project, but this time it's very different. They somehow managed to create something that is completely new and fascinating to me, at least in music: extremely aggressive emptiness!
Though KD's music is always quite puzzling and most definitely complicated, I think this just might be the first time Driver lets the music descend into chaos! On Coyote the rhythm section seems to be more highlighted than on previous albums, which could insinuate that the music is less chaotic, and I love how the opposite happened. And could someone please tell me why the trumpet doesn't belong in every rock group's intrumentation?

I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of KD-fans about the new direction...

Ready for the bad news?

Coyote won't be released early in the year, but it will be delayed all the way to APRIL 20TH, and my soul has just been erased!!! Dead

That's lame. The later release date, not the cover art. I won't look at the art or listen to any samples until I have the actual release.

Eh, cover art's a little weak, especially compared to Choirs, but it's much better than The Incident.

Do we know why it's been delayed? Did Toby trip and break the master tapes?

Sounds thrilling. Hope they've heard HH's Crossings too. Whisper Ineffable was interesting. Not sure about the vocals.

I love how the vocals kind of sound like a disrespectful child snickering!
