As new member, I am quite surprised that 2 major french fusion jazz rock bands are missing in this impressive data base : SIXUN (featuring drumer Paco Sery, and bass player Michel Alibo) and ULTRAMARINE, especially the "Dé" album (featuring Mokthar Samba and Etienne M'Bappe).  Both recorded in the late 80's and early 90's. Ultramarine splitted long ago, but Sixun is still on the road. These two bands have strong african influences and offer two of the greatest rythmic section ever. I remember that Mike Stern (or was it Scofield ?) chose an Ultramarine song as answering machine message ...  In fact, guitar band players are also considered not only as virtuose instrumentists, but also as major composers (Louis Winsberg - Sixun - N'Guyen Le - Ultramarine). As far as drummers are concerned, you'll be amazed.
NB : beware Ultramarine has an homonymous band, an electro one I guess ...
For Ultramarine, CD exist - For video, do as I do, keep searching ... Big smile
Once I understand how to stream mp3 down there, I may do something Wink

Sixun (6-1) is indeed a good jazz-rock band. I think 'Explore' is their best album.
Also worth mentioning is the trumpetist Eric Le Lann who released an album which is in the same vein as Sixun, 'New York' in 1989, which should not be a wonder as it features Louis Winsberg and Paco Sery. Some tunes remind also the excellent Gamalon. Sound samples are available here : http://musique.fnac.com/a1892596/Eric-Le-Lann-New-York-CD-album#ecoutes
You mentioned Mike Stern, another fine jazz-rock guitarist who should be in PA as well...

I don't know much about Ultramarine, but N'Guyen Le released an excellent album with Huong Thanh, 'dragonfly' which features Richard Bona and Etienne M'Bappe on bass...
