Yep! I'm gonna go all DallasBryan on ya!

Carnascialia - Self-titled. 1979

This record is a real lost gem from the Italian prog scene that I chanced upon when searching for Demetrio Stratos solo material. Born from the ashes of Canzoniere del Lazio, an Italian folk group that produced a string of albums (none of which I've heard), the band added the likes of Mauro Pagani of PFM and Demetrio Stratos of Area to form a sizeable band that played a heady mixture of folk, prog and what I guess is a kind of world music. The result is very palatable indeed, meriting close attention but also great as interesting background music. Stratos' vocal contributions are superb, as ever, and Pagani also stands out on violin and mandolin (I believe he was heavily involved in the writing process).

The band may have gone on to produce more records were it not for Stratos' tragic death that same year. Alas, they now crop up as a single album curioso but one I'd recommend any Italian/folk prog fan hunting down.

Note - the CD release is out of print, so your best bet's the internet.

Mmmmmm.....

Though I'm Ialian, I've never heard about Carnascialia... but the name suggests me some frenetic popular music.

(Carnaciale = the most trasgressive and unrestrained carnival celebration)

I'll check it out

Oh, another note - I'm pretty sure it isn't Demetrio singing on the first track but there's no doubt that it is he on track two "Fiocchi di Neve e Bruscolini". Regardless, it's a great album and it's growing on me.
