Tell me I'm not the only one who adores Iona? (They're on the archives)

A Celtic band who create the most gorgeous soundscapes and Joanne Hogg's vocals are impeccably good. They had a few duff poppier tracks but other than that, I think their work is almost flawless. Their lyrics won't be for everyone, generally Christian/Spiritual (although I think they work perfectly).

Favourite album is Beyond These Shores or Journey Into the Morn (one of the two even featured Robert Fripp on guitars).

Their very best song in my opinion, above, is Encircling. I also love Machrie Moor, Journey Into the Morn, Hinba, Castlerigg, Heaven's Bright Sun, Bi-Se I Mo Shuil Part 2, Wind Off the Lake and more.
And lo, the mighty riffage was played and it was good

Iona are my favourite current prog-folk band, far better than Karnataka and Mostly autumn.

For progsters, the albums to recommend are : 'Beyond these shores' and 'The book of Kells'. The guitarist, Dave Bainbridge released an amazing solo album as well, with the other members of Iona as the backing band : 'Veil of Gossamer'.

And their singer, Joanne Hogg, released also a solo album that is worth purchasing : 'celtic hymns'.

I hope to hear more from them in the future.

Iona are a wonderful band. The Book of Kells is a masterpiece while their song 'Flight of the Wild Goose' from their debut is one of my all time favourites. Theirs even some Allan Holdsworth style soloing on that song!

IMO...whatever that means...Joanna beats Enya in all-around Celtic Female Vocalist. Her range is amazing, she can go from whisper to glass busting volume, and she fits Ionas music perfectly. " When I Survey"...classic!

I've heard bits of Veil of Gossamer but need to hear more.

Bainbridge is a brilliant guitarist. If he was 20 years younger and had a trendy haircut, I reckon kids would worship the guy's skills.Wink
