Would you Guys consider them Prog in any way, haven't heard all their stuff but seem experimental / electronic. They're from France and albums include: "Talkie Walkie" and "Moon Safari".

They've got that retro-70s sound, definitely...they certainly wouldn't ruin the mood in between more 'strictly prog' tracks. For lack of a better place, I file them around the same general area as bands like Stereolab and Space.

I'd go with Mr Lee's assessment - the synth sounds on Moon Safari are very 70s, though I don't know that they're really prog. If you like them, the Norwegian duo Royksopp are also well worth checking out - Melody A.M. almost beats Moon Safari at its own game.

Melody AM and Moon Safari are so similar in album structure. Sparks and All I Need are very similar for example. I bet they modelled MAM on Air's debut.
I wouldn't say Air are prog but they did a movie soundtrack for The Virgin Suicides which is very floyd lol.
I would call them ambient/experimental but not prog, they are kinda like dance rock too along with daft punk and Royksopp.

Don't know Royksopp and not much of Daft Punk, I'm not a dance fan at all , its just I like music on the experimental side.

I don't think Air is progrock, I agree with Frenchie.
I do think a lot of proggers will love Moon Safari, though. I do!

They're too new-agey for my taste....but at times there's an early Floyd feel.....not bad stuff, just not music I'll go back to very often.

| I'm sure they deserve more to be qualified "pog" than many current bands which call themselves prog!

Air's 10,000Hz Legend and Virgin Suicides are about as close as modern 'elctronica' gets to prog IMO, there's a ton of Floyd in there as well as some pyschedelic elements mixed in with the easy listening vibe - both are superb albums, particularly 10,000Hz, which is barking mad enough to fit most definitions of 'progressive'! Moon Safari to me is not as ambitious, it's lovely in parts but allies itself more closely to lounge music than rock, which 10,000Hz and Suicides do. Also I think the appeal of their debut has been eroded somewhat by a slew of copycat bands, in pareticular the awful Zero 7, who templated Air's style down to the last note and. Of their ilk, Cinematic Orchestra are more interesting. Massive Attack's 'Danny the Dog' soundtrack is also worth investigating for its ambient/ spacey tendencies. In concert too, Air become much more a space-rock band, playing long wig-out versions of songs, letting them go where they will. Superb band and one of the most interesting 'electronic' acts out there, though their last album Talkie Walkie was I think a bit of step backwards to the feel of Moon Safari - pressure from the record company to conform and repeat the success of their debut as the soundtrack to interiors and gardens TV show perhaps?

Personally, I really like Air and definitely see a connection with good old early 70s prog. Shame they haven't experimented with time signatures and key changes or invited a deranged vocalist to join them.

I really agreed with that affirmation.Air is my favorite new band and buy everything that they released.Personnally.I think that "Virgin Suicides" soundtrack and 10 000 Khz are the two albums that are the closest to prog music."Virgin Suicides" specially is very dark with a lot of mellotron and owes a lot to early Pink Floyd and the first three albums of King Crimson. That album is recommanded for anyone who likes early 70's prog music and for mellotron lovers.
Like someone said in a earlier post, they are not really prog and are for sure not deserve belonging in the Archives. But on other hand, they deserved to be here more than some bands like Queen. It's not that I don't like Queen but they are not prog for me,they are a rock (and a excellent one).
For Air,I will surely be very happy if they are featured on the Archives some days.

I prefer Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie, though the other albums are maybe more ground breaking.

AIR do have some prog elements IMO. I love Moon Safari and Premiere Symptomes. I could never get on with 10,000HTZ, I'll give it another spin.
Syzygy and arcer mentioned Royksop and The Cinematic Orchestra respectivley, as compariosn bands. I would say TCO are better than AIR; they are more jazz influenced than AIR.
