Well, given that many black metal bands turned to avant-garde or ambient, there is a chance they have now something common with prog.

I'd say no.
Does Burzum have progressive qualities? Sure, just listen to "Tomhet." But in every possible way, Burzum is different from prog (rock, electronica, anything!). Culture, musical ethos, following, relation to progressive rock acts... Completely different. |

Mid-era Burzum, as in Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Filosofem, do have some long and surprisingly complex songs on it and as a matter of fact isn't Varg Vikernes on the record a quite big Krautrock fan? It's not too big a stretch to interpret the long, trippy epics on those two albums as perhaps inspired by the long jams of a band like Can.

Burzum has given birth to many bands currently in PA as avant-garde black metal bands....
I wouldn't reject them without serious analysis...

And what better way of explaining why than your deep, thought-provoking, enlightening post.
