I do and check it every single day multiple times a day because is a good way to stay in touch with some people who don't live in the US (which is, ALL of my best friends)... It's under my real name.

I joined for a couple a days but quit because I was getting automatic hook-ups with people from my old high school, this school is in a death-trap town and most of my old friends who stayed there are in really bad shape (drug damage, parolees, welfare etc) and they are to be avoided and I was getting pictures of women from my old high school who are even older than me and they are wearing tight dresses and trying to look hot and it was gross, unexpected and not asked for, I quit immediately.

I wish I hadn't been so opposed to Facebook in high school, it would have made my life much easier. But it's mostly irrelevant to me now so I don't use it much.

Yes. You see, women use it. Go against the grain all you want, but eventually they'll want to check your profile out and you theirs. It makes things easier.

Not that I'm not always teetering on the edge of nuking it. I just got rid of a lot of old, indulgent personal crap which no one really needs to know or care about.

Now I FINALLY know what King Crimson were singing about:

I do remember one thing.
It took hours and hours but..
By the time I was done with it
I was so involved
I didn't know what to think.
I carried it around with me for days and days..
Playing little games
Like not looking at it for a whole day
And then.. looking at it.
To see if I still liked it.

(And in answer to your question: NO!)

Great quote, sums it up perfectly

There's also a quote from the title track of Martin Orford's album 'The Old Road'

You've got the power to talk for hours
To friends you've never seen
Since you started to live your life
In a made up world
On a cold black screen
That's why I'm taking the old road...

Any by the way - yes, I am on Facebook, and am enjoying it at the moment (even if I am a little addicted to 'Bejewelled'

Yes, I'm on Facebook. But I have zero interest in Farmville or Mobwars

zzzzz...

Some of the feeds from the 'Classic rock presents prog' group, contain good live clips, though.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

No Twitter, no Facebook. I just don't want to put too much of myself on display anymore, so I try to avoid virtual showrooms. In fact, PA is enough of this for me.

Facebook is great or crap depending 100% on your connections (the so called "Friends"). I've made an account with zero expectations and discovered it's an amazing communication tool for me.

Nope, I don't really want to be bothered with having to check it. Email and texting works fine for me to keep in touch with people.
I spend enough time on the internet as it is

I do but hardly use it now, and its pretty much just status updates (usually lyrics, being silly, or whatever is pissing me off in the news)

I got one the summer before my freshman year of college, back when you HAD to be in college (or needed a college email) and it was a college network. Year later it was opened to everyone and became this crap fest it is.

The Facebook idea is brilliant. Old people in Scotland can communicate with their grand children in Australia, across the street or in Canada. Old class mates can gloat over their old bullies long term jail terms, most preferable; sodomy involving farm-animals (hi Nicklas, only two years left now !!) or friends keeping in touch. That idea is brilliant.

What I don't like is these mafia wars applications and spam things. But you can turn those off in the security settings. I have never included any personal informations in my profile. Stuff like birthday, employer, address etc etc should never be included in a Facebook profile. Ditto for sex videos and other personal pictures which may come back as a theme during a job interview or an election campaign for a higher office.

But the Facebook idea is brilliant. It is a pity that all the nonsense has overshadowed the brilliant idea. Mostly for silver surfers, it has to be said.

I somehow have two.

My chat is usually switched off and I rarely look at my Events.  Luckily most people don't want to converse with me, so it's all good.

However, it's a useful tool as many of my friends don't have credit on their 'phone or I don't have their number.

Great post! :)

I have one. It's useful, I get event invitations, get updates from family and friends, although I've probably hidden more than half of the people I've accepted as friends, so it's pretty sparse now. I do follow a number of bands, and it's nice to get updates from them. But, for the most part, I visit facebook to play chess against a high school buddy (that has been the one activity on facebook I do the most for the past 3 years). Oh, my home company has a facebook page as well. I actually update status' there.
