Painfully passionate? And which one would you rather choose? I would certainly go for comfortably numb, because I want to be Safe in the light that surrounds me

I thought the "comfortably numb" state referred to becoming free of pain...
So the opposite would have to refer to the point where the pain becomes unbearable?
