Following on from Sean Trane's Cassiber thread, I though this might be interesting. Chris Cutler has been involved in all manner of bands and projects over the years, but I've kept this to those which were more or less song based and where Cutler was the lyricist. I think I know how this will turn out, but see if you can surprise me.

Despite my Cassiber thread and the great video I posted, I'm definitely more in line with News From Babel
No Brainville3 (that we saw together) in your list?

I'm going with Art Bears, but I love News From Babel and enjoy what I've heard of the other projects (it's actually very close between the two for me).

Weirdly, I still can't seem to get into Art Bears. One of these days, maybe... What I've heard of Cassiber has definitely intrigued me, but I'd need to hear more to know whether or not it tops the sublime News From Babel.

There is two more groups that are missing in this poll: Aksak Maboul and Honeymoon Killers
Dave, you're like me... I think you overdose of Dagmar's vocals..... which is why NFB is better, especially with Letters Home and Wyatt's presence.

My favorite work is probably the Firth/Cutler duos, however that is a bit outside of the scope of this poll.
Out of these options I'll pick The Science Group with the caveat that I haven't heard any News From Babel. TSG's Spoors is one of my favorite avant-prog/rock albums I've heard yet. Edited by Man With Hat - June 12 2010 at 18:40 |

Yowza, that's a lot of stuff I have to check out. The only post-Henry Cow stuff I've heard with him are "Just Woke Up" with Peter Blegvad and the 80s David Thomas solo records.

I last saw Chris Cutler a couple of weeks ago playing with Pere Ubu singer David Thomas and a double bass player - he's as hyperactive as ever on the drum stool.
