Topic: Renaissance Prologue Help needed Posted: July 05 2010 at 12:04 |
I bought Renaissance Prologue off iTunes, and I was wondering if Rajah Khan has soft parts where the volume drops. It sounds like it is part of the mastering, but I wanted to check with people that perhaps have the CD.
Track 6 Rajah Khan from Prologue from the 7:40-7:50 mark and again at the 11:12-11:15 mark. I am new to the group. Thanks!

Hi,
I will have to listen to it again ... not surprised as a lot of the stuff in iTunes is really badly rendered and has really cheap quality all over it!

Most of the stuff that I get is of good quality, and it is really a great buy at $5.99 compared to the CD prices. When I buy CD, I generally rip to flac for storage then convert to mp3 or aac comparable to what is purchasable on itunes or Amazon MP3. Let me know. Thanks!

Heard the song carefully
At 7:47 the volume of the piano solo goes slightly down for 1 or 2 seconds
At 11:12 there's no change, by the contrary, it goes in crescendo before the finale.

Just had a listen to it again myself, the volume drops are definitely intentional. It goes quiet suddenly then gradually becomes louder over a few bars as they repeat the same riff. Renaissance draw a lot of their inspiration from classical music, where volume changes like this are common, unlike modern music which is just loud-loud-loud.

Cool, thanks! $5.99 is such a good price on these renaissance albums, so I am happy with the sound quality of the music. 256k aac sounds very good everywhere I play it even if it may never be as perfect as a lossless format.

I'm with you there-I don't generally have the space for lossless and even between 128 and 256, I can barely hear the difference, Neanderthal that I am.

This was the first Renaissance song I heard on CHOM-FM in Montreal in 1971or 72. I have been a major fan since, and still can't understand their lack of larger success. Glad there are still people out there discovering this amazing music.
The volume changes are called decrescendo and are definitely intentional. Marked in musical notation as >.

I am actually new to prog as a genre since I realized that my favorite groups were prog. It just hit me in 2009 that I love prog and have been listening to it since the 70s. I feel like a little boy in a candy store with this website able to find stuff that I missed in the 70s. When I was buying this stuff on LP in the 70s, they were just my favorite rock groups. Renaissance is a group that I missed, but I am a new fan now.
