One of the reasons because i love prog music is maybe cause when i was kid i liked very much some musics from video game. I had a Master System and enjoyed tracks from games like Space Harrier, Rastan, Ghouls n´Ghosts,  OutRun, Golden Axe etc. And now i realise that most of those tracks are very proggy...

Check it out some of them:



I played once a cover of this track with my brother in a party, it was very funLOL



Very uncommon tempo for a game...



^This one is very ecentric...

Well u know that Robert Fripp as done the sound in microsux windows :-) but for the games,
i'm a little old school... still love Apeiron (shooting mushrooms, lol) and when you check
the about it, the music credits got some big prog stars like Pink Floyd and Zappa,
oops should had writen Zappa and Pink Floyd, sorry Frank, Hendrix and the doors + some others  :-)
(i can never figure out how to put a .jpg picture here when doing a comment, well i'm old)

Tim Follin made alot of great music for nes games. He listens to alot of prog I've heard. His music is very proggy Smile

Nah, I would say that video game music is part of the gaming experience.  "Dancing Mad" is great on its own, but it is even more powerful when facing off against the final boss after hours and hours of putting all that effort into the game, and there's nothing quite like delivering the final blow.  It also works vice versa.

FF6 = best music ever in a game.
 
I'll tell you what though, I LOVED the old imuse music system Lucasarts used to use on their games though, best witnessed in Monkey Island 2. The music was continuous- whenever you changed location or scene, the music did not stop and start again with a different tune, but smoothly blended into the next piece. There were dozens and dozens of little scripted musical transitions from each piece to the next. I remember walking in and out of locations at different times to hear them all. Also, standing closer to certain objects/characters would cause the music change subtlely to reflect atmosphere, or beginning a conversation with someone would see the mix change in a way that reflected their character and so on. Brilliant and the game is 18 years old. Could be done now but people can't be bothered investing so much in their scores.

That's what I'm saying though. That boss would suck if it didn't have Dancing Mad in the background.

I would love to see a band do something like that Monkey Island 2 imuse thing, a set of tracks where you could switch between them at any time and they would transition into each other. Canibus tried something similar with Poet Laureate Infinity (five ten minute long rap tracks with different lyrics but you could switch between them at any time and it would still rhyme and make sense- probably the most complex thing ever attempted in the history of lyrics) but it would be cool to see a jazz fusion band or something do it. It would need to be on a special software programme that cued the transitions when you switched rather than standard track/mp3 format though.
