Other: Between the Buried and Me is my vote. but Opeth was a close second and (can't believe this wasn't a choice) Porcupine Tree taking 3rd. Mars Volta gets the honorable mention

Porcupine Tree, I think they came after 1989 but I could be wrong.
I've only heard half of the bands listed but I don't really like any of them.

Didn't Dream Theater release their first album in 1989? that said, I would vote for either Riverside or Porcupine Tree. Of this list, it would be a tossup between Tool and Pain of Salvation.
