Topic: Bass players most influential Posted: August 15 2010 at 16:22
I dont put all the bass players but I pust some influencual bass player (whom are influencuall to mye playing and in general). so escuse me for not include some odd bass player from a band which ive not heard of (out of plain ignorance or for having a low frequenz music radar).
don't shoot me becouse yore favourite bass player is not on the poll, I play bass but I have not looked at all the corners, and I have just looked for influence on a couple of 20-30 gyus, and I did not include all the prog bass players, nor all jazz, funk, metal, avant, pop or rock bass players just a bunch of relative known names in the bass universe which are influetial (to mee atleast)
most of them are obvious other are more after mye taste
mye favourite bass playrs (which are not all legends or inovaters but are highly influentual to mye playing are as follows
Mike Porcaro (Toto, Sonny and Cher, and many many more) and it sadnes me that he have ALS

I though of him and the Tool baseplayer, and the baseplayers of Atheist and Cynic (Roger Patterson and Sean Malone) Cliff Burton, Billy Sheehan (should have him he is amazing) Stue Hamm, Randy Jackson, Abraham Laboriel, Richard Bona, Natham East, Stu Hamm, Anthony Jackson, Alphonso Johnson and Jeff Berlin

Larry Graham. The inventor of slap bass, which alone probably qualifies him. He also was in Sly and the Family Stone, which was a pretty big part of early in the psychedelic movement.
Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell? I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.

In Germany it would be Hellmut Hattler of Kraan, Guru Guru, Tab Two, Liliental, Siyou'n Hell and his self-titled band Hattler. There even is the verb "hattlern" for a certain kind of bass playing here. If you don't know him, check him out.
And I am also missing Colin Hodgkinson of Back Door on the list. He definitely belongs there for his innovative use of the bass guitar. Here a few videos of him:

John Entwistle for his pioneerism and incredible bass playing. Otherwise I would vote for Chris Squire, but if is Mr. Ox on the list, he´s shadowing him (unfortunately). Rest in peace, John!
