Cross over. As it crosses over from many different sun genres?
That or eclectic. Hmmm yes.

I just got my copy. I love it. I think it's a great disc. It doesn't sound exactly like Wilson or Akerfeldt's prior musical endeavours, but there are definite hints of their involvement. There are parts that remind you of their previous output. One section in 'Hag' reminds me of 'Get All You Deserve' off Wilson's first solo album Insurgentes. Whereas there is a part in the title track which is similar to the guitar work in Opeth's Watershed album, IMO.

I was shocked to find they're not on Prog Archives as of yet. Maybe in Crossover or Eclectic Prog? Or maybe Folk Prog?
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

The video is amazing. Very artistic, very pictural. The visual narrative completes the lyrics in a subtle yet powerful way...

I received my Storm Corrosion vinyl arrived yesterday.  Sadly, the beginning of the first side has a defect.  Can't tell if it's a manufacturing defect or a mastering problem, but it's audible.  That sucks because this is a damn quiet album.

Anyone else seeing this with their copy?  I may be screwed since the pressing appears to be sold out.

Sounded pretty good when it was on Youtube a week or so ago.  Looking forward to the coming week.

So..... anyone had a listen and would care to share their views? I've not pulled the trigger on this one yet so I'd be interested to hear them.

Drag Ropes video is astonishing. A very unusual thing for both Wilson and Akerfeldt and it works! Lord, how it works! Clap

During yesterday's Steven Wilson gig here is Stockholm the man himself confirmed that the Åkerfeldt/Wilson project Storm Corrosion will release their album on May 7th. According to Wilson, the recent closing of the Roadrunner Records offices in UK and Canada might make people speculate about a possible delay of the release. Steven Wilson firmly stated that those potential rumors are false and that the record will be release according to plan.

What was your beef with Insurgentes? It wasn't a perfect album, but I've definitely replayed particular tracks. I thought it was good, and Grace for Drowning definitely took it further. Raider II is such a fun song.

As far as Storm Corrosion is concerned, I'm listening to Drag Ropes for the third time in two days, and it's starting to sink in a little. I like how they're able to build tension in it without often really leaving the whole subtle pseudo-ambient vibe. That being said, an entire album like this may be a little too much. I agree with Negoba about the harmony/countermelody/intertwining voices thing. Quite satisfying and definitely the highlight.

That first track bored the bejeezus out of me until the bridge with the intertwining voices which was delicious.

So I'm intrigued but not expecting the moon.

Current Listening:

Heater valve kicking on.
Snotty noses being blown.
Griping.
Maybe cookies coming out of the oven???

C is for cookie, and it is good enough for me.

This actually interests me quite a bit. It obviously isn't something that hooks you right away, but I can see myself getting into this. All this being said after not really having enjoyed the last couple SW releases (GfD and The Incident leave me tasteless)

It's not so much about preconceived notions as it is I'm not in to that type of music. Maybe I'll cancel my order and wait a bit.

Well - the whole album is pretty much like that.

I think the key here is to leave any preconceived notion of what you think Akerfeldt will sound like on this album at the door.  It sounds nothing like what I have heard from him before.  On the other hand, this is something that I could see Steven Wilson doing.

Good stuff - I like it.
