Topic: Invisible Touch poll! Posted: August 21 2010 at 17:00 |
Quite amazing that it isn't until track 6 where a song wasn't released as a single or had a promotional video. A testament to the album's popularity and connection with the pop music of its day. One of the first records I bought when I was very young. I grew up on 80's Genesis and loved what they were doing at this time. I didn't realize until later that the guy who sang "Sledgehammer" was once in this band. The Gabriel years are good too, but I prefer the Collins era from Trick of the Tail onwards. Hard for me to decide. Some tracks I love more than others. I love the pop craftsmanship of the title track and Anything She Does, but also the darker material like Tonight, Tonight, Tonight and In the Glow of the Night. I settled on Throwing It All Away, a song I did not like at first listen, but one I grew to love and is a favorite.

"Tonight Tonight Tonight" gets my vote, one of my favourites from the three-man lineup. Excellent track. I like most of this album, with the glaring exception of the title track, and "In Too Deep" is rather lifeless. Everything else is great!

Anything She Does gets my vote, a really clever song and great sing along.

I like the first three songs and the last one. As to which one is my favourite, I don't know, perhaps The Brazilian, though Land of Confusion is pretty good too (as a pop song, ofcourse).

I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an
epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and
enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off
your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins
and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every
instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical
craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of
professionalism.
And yet, I place The Brazilian above the rest of the record.

Why is Domino split in two parts in this poll? I regard it as one track, in two parts (not an unfamilar scenario in progressive rock..) Anyway, I would vote for Domino as a whole track if there were the option to do so. The rest of the album is mostly guff, with the exception of Land of Confusion and The Brazillian which I can cope with in small doses.

I agree. Domino is one song and would get my vote if the pole was set up that way.

It's been so long since I've listened to this one I don't remember some of the songs. I'm thinking one of those might be the best. I'm voting for the one with the best video.
