Come to think of it, I'm 100% sure it wouldn't have been aired without Carlsen, they never showed chess before he became an absolute world elite player. Anyway, now I'm watching Islanders v Lightning.

I don't think chess is a big spectator sport in Norway, but in Russia and India, where this year's and last year's world championship is/was held respectively, they're chess mad, from what I've heard anyway, so there I think being in the audience for live matches is very popular. Anyway, now I'm watching the Euro 2016 qualifier match between Azerbaijan and Norway, a must win match for Norway, IMO.
