I'm listening for the first time the entirety of Volume One and I've got to say I'm very surprised, this is soo good.

Both, Piper and Vol. 1, sound in many aspects similar, both psych but a bit ahead of your average psych.

Which one do you prefer?

I haven't heard Piper yet, but Volume 1 is my second favorite Soft Machine album (after Volume Two) and I like either of them better than my favorite Pink Floyds so far (Meddle and Atom Heart Mother) so I won't vote until I hear Piper.

Sorry for that, but I really wasn't expecting someone from PA not having listened that, and much less someone like you, hehe.

If you liked Volume 1 that much, Piper will surely have something for you.

Yeah, I need to get it eventually, but I'm not in a huge hurry. Tongue

More or less at the same level for me. Possibly Soft Machine's work is a bit more interesting

That was an interesting song Pablo, like I said, Piper is on my list of albums to get, but it's not near the top at the moment. Tongue

THE BLACK AND GREEN SCARECROW AS EVERYONE KNOWS STOOD WITH A BIRD ON HIS HAT AND STRAW EVERYWHERE HE DIDN'T CARE

I love Syd too much to vote for an album I don't even enjoy

Haha, that's ok, it's not my favorite Floyd album and I used to really despise a couple of months ago. Now I enjoy it quite a bit, few doses though, and I've got be in the mood for it.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn leaves me completely cold. I haven't got it out to play for 20 years or more.

SM vol 1 isn't my favourite SM album, but it's quite good.

Very hard to decide, but The Piper was really innovative. It introduced me into Psychedelia and I've never left that genre.

I need to pick up Piper too, but they refuse to release a single disc edition that doesn't cost thirty dollars, so it will have to wait. Angry

Look for "A nice pair" It's the low cost reprint of The Piper and A Saucerful of secrets. You'll get two for one.

I quite like "Piper" but not as much as "Soft Machine" which is for me a masterpiece of psychedelic music.

The Soft Machine's Volume one is a True Masterpiece! It has one of the best 1'st sides ever, culminating in a great climax with "A Certain Kind" (last song on side 1). I think "A Certain Kind" influenced Close to the Edge title track alot!. Piper at the gates of dawn pales to this masterpiece.
I could imagine that alot of Yes fans would enjoy this one.
Don't vote if you haven't heard it Smile.

Take your time to listen to one of the best songs ever made =)

They are two fantastic albums. I voted for Piper because my story with Pink Floyd began earlier than the one with Soft Machine and without Piper I wouldn't ever tried One.

I enjoy both albums... but, I can listen to "Piper" more often. I really think "Volume One" lacks in production. "Volume Two" was a better album... but, "Saucerful of Secrets" was preferable too.
My favourite early Floyd album is "More", and as for Soft Machine's "Third", well... I like most of all. In fact, it's my favourite album of all time!!! :)))
