Last year I discovered the band Zrní from the Czech Republic. Zrní means grain or corn. I went to the concert and immediately bought an album from them. In some moments it slightly reminds me of King Crimson with David Cross, but not so 'heavy'.
One person in this forum already said, that it sounds RIO to him.
What do you think?

Here is their myspace:

And I have collected some live performances from youtube:

Sorry for late coming and slight alternation, but after giving it another thoughts, maybe material will be more possible for Eclectic, or even Crossover (depends on one's perception of Prog and its soft nuisances).

Because there easily can be situation: Not weird odd enough for RIO/Avant.

In terms of Czech Republic, they're Avant garde music, I suppose that they're taken by listeners here like that, but in terms of PA, maybe they'll not. We'll see.

I also bought their album. It's great music, could be taken as weak Avant (maybe in vein of Iva Bittová a little bit). Weak in terms of similarity to other Avant artists, not in terms of quality.

I said I'll try to help you with this and so my word still is true.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

Just discovered that you can listen to their full debut album here:

http://www.zrni.cz/voni.php

Simply click on the arrows next to the loudspeaker symbols.
Probably my favourite is 'Hlavy' (Heads), one of four songs sung in English.
The other 'english' songs are 'Skládanka Hádanka' (Jigsaw Puzzle), 'Ledové Květy' (Ice Flowers) and 'Tanečník' (Dancer).

I'm listening to the first tracks from Voni. Not avant indeed, like Marty said. Sounds like a light form of Art Rock. Maybe Crossover, that would be my opinion.

Alex, I constantly have problem with this. This stuff is often called "avant-gardni" in Czech, which is literally translated as "Avant-garde", because in fact, it is. However, one have to switch to PA way of thinking and suddenly, it's not Avant, but Crossover (for example).

It's problem even for me, so I understand how it must be for her.

I'll drag the cat into our (X-over) genre.
