Publishing many high class jazz fusion albums, Dave Holland has had a prominent place in the jazz world to be displayed as fusional or new or avant-garde jazz or whatever-we-call-it-jazz artist or simply a progressive bass player, composer or band leader; close enough to be included here.

He's a great bassist, great avant-jazz composer, yes, but IMO he doesn't belong on PA at all.  As far as I know he never made any fusion albums, or jazz rock for that matter.  Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

You're probably right his solo works are rather avant-jazz, his coll's with Miles Davis for ex. are more fusional. However, albums of his own Extensions, Conference etc are quite form-breaking to be regarded progressive. Too many categories to stick to and walls to build, which musicians do never care, pity...

I agree with the "too many categories with walls" but unfortunately that's how the site works - don't worry, we can still enjoy his music without him being on PA. Big smile

I'll mention this to the Jazz-Rock team and see what they say.
