I was put in mind of this due to Torman Maxt discussion about the Christian lyrics. An example of one I like with a Christian theme is Jesus Christ Superstar. What are some of your favourites? One of my favourites is Lalo Schifrin's Rock Requiem (just uploaded the first track to youtube, please share any thoughts -- comment on the vids, post your own faves, discuss your feelings on this topic...): EDIT, and I uploaded this. I really dig this track: Edited by Logan - July 08 2019 at 11:32 |

Another one I really like that was recommended to me before is Heikki Sarmanto's New Hope Jazz Mass. Another that is very good, I think, is Mary Lou Williams' 1963 Black Christ of the Andes. Edited by Logan - July 08 2019 at 11:33 |

Argentine hard rock band from the 70s tackles one of the world's favourite anthologies. The results are chugga-chugga-chugga groovin'. |

^ Sounds good. Looks like this is the holy grail of Christian acid folk albums: Sounds of Salvation Listen to: "What is it like Lord?" Listen to: "Overseers" It's talked about and samples of this bizarre, and beautiful, album are here: http://thesoundofsalvation.blogspot.com/2010/03/xian-psychedelic-folk.html Gotta get it. Glad you liked it. The two new Proto-Kaw albums are chock full of Christian goodness (since these were songs written by a post-conversion Kerry Livgren). Although I must say that the absolute best Christian songs I've ever heard came from: 1. Neal Morse (pure devotional majesty) 2. Lifehouse (so intimate and encouraging) 3. DC Talk (a range of all things Christian) Sadly, it seems every Christian artist has some cheesy moments, but that can be forgiven, I think- most artists have their cheesiness no matter what their content. |

One of my favorite artists Arlo Guthrie wrote about his faith on this 1979 album. Though he covers some other topics too, so not a purely religious title by any means. Great album for the folk/rock lovers. Had a full band called Shenandoah behind him here, so this one is more rock than folk.

^ Thanks.
A favourite of mine is Majoie Hajary - La Passion Selon Judas Though I've spoken of this in the past, and had a sample, I haven't found the sample to share again. Excellent album that I used to have and very much want again (quite rare LP). Plan to edit more info in later if I can re-find a particular link that has a sample and good description. Although I'm a (devout) atheist I really liked Salamader's 1971 album 'The Ten Commandments'
It doesn't overly proselytize and the music is (mostly) damn spiffy |

King's X is excellent. Veni Domine too is good (see my interview with them). Horde's black metal album was pretty good. Mortification's Scrolls Of The Megilloth is a death metal classic. Ajalon is a good symph prog band. Believer is a good death metal band. Most of the rest has already been mentioned. I am a believer myself, but I still have a major issue with the Christian music scene and the media supporting it which I feel is false and is breaking at least two of the ten commandments. When a band like Petra is ripping off riffs and songs from Def Leppard for their best selling album and then accusing the same band of being satanists just to earn more sales from the Christian scene, you feel the scene is hell-bound. That is my main gripe with a scene I feel is isolating themselves too much from the normal scene. An attitude which explains why the ex Christian pop artist Jessica Simpson was evicted from the scene because she was too sexy. |

Great topic!
Woven Hand To Make a Ring (please ignore the first 30 seconds. And the video in general. Its some artstudents work) Listen Judgement will not be avoided by your unbelief By your lack of fear Nor by your prayers to any little idol here He owns all those cattle He owns all these hills Forever round the throne yeah Scarier than Burzum. Woven Hand Down in Yon Forest These two are from Consider the Birds. All their albums and songs are dealing with christian themes. Pendercki Dies Irae (the remaining parts are on youtube, if anyones interested) Perry Leopold Sunday Afternoon in the Garden of Delights (from Christian Lucifer, 1973) Stickup robber, heroinist and deeply religious singer/songwriter Judee Sill Jesus Was A Crossmaker (from seltitled debut) Edited by Rocktopus - October 19 2010 at 11:07 |

^ Excellent music Penderecki really is superb, and I really like Perry Leopold's Christian Lucifer album.
This is the first time, I think, that I've heard that Judee Sill track -- nice. Going off-topic, but I'd like to a general religious one too. One you suggested for PA that has good material for such a topic is Extradition's Hush (I still think that should be in PA). For Avatar Mehar Baba (Ashram/ guru music was very popular then): Continuing with my digression, but William Sheller's Lux Aeterna is a neat that has religious themes -- Christian, and my fave track is "Hare Krishna". A Christian acid folk album I'd like to get is Sharon Folk's "Inside Looking out" (thanks to that soundofsalvation site for the samples): Love this: http://www.helanproperties.co.uk/sharonpeople_wilderness.mp3 Less enjoyable, for me, song about having fallen in love with Jesus Christ: http://www.helanproperties.co.uk/sharonpeople_iminlove.mp3 Such a lot of good religious, spiritual, or mystical music that are, and there's a lot of really good "Jesus Freak" music out there from the era. Of course religion/ spirituality has inspired/ much of the greatest music Edited by Logan - July 08 2019 at 11:34 |

Here's a fun little quiz to test one's knowledge of "obscure psychedelic Christian bands and their LPs."

The only thing I can think of is The Christ Tree by The Trees Community. Great Psychedelic-Folk album.

Glass Harp (by Glass Harp) from 1970 is a pretty good psychedelic album with bits of progressiveness. There's quite a bit of flute. Also, the guitarist, Phil Keaggy, is very talented.
Theocracy is a Christian progressive power metal band that is absolutely excellent. They have 2 albums, but I think their second, Mirror of Souls, is better. Plus is has a 20 minute power metal epic Also, Saviour Machine is a great Christian goth band, especially if you like more violent lyrics. I'd recommend their first album, Saviour Machine 1 first. Then of course, there's the essential albums from Neal Morse. |

The RPI albums are purported to be Christian themed, though I can't say for sure as I don't speak Italian.
