Anyone here know where I can obtain the 'Please Mind Your Head' album by String Driven Thing? It was reasonably popular in its day, but now appears to be a very obscure. If you are trying to visualise the cover, it has a person holding a tennis racket in front of his face. 'The Machine That Cried' album from the same era of the band appears to be freely available. I would go as far as to settle for a master from vinyl or an out-take boot.

Not one of their best albums, so probably little chance of a re-release. I think the band managed to get control of their "Machine that cried" tapes, and rereleased a "definitive" version themselves.

Some of their albums are available for streaming on WE7.COM, but not the one you seek I'm afraid.

Hi,

I love that album and the one after it ... nice Hipgnosis covers and nicer music.

Their website is sad, and i nmy book a bit of a travesty ... and the current version of the band has totally dis-owned and hidden the information on that incarnation of the band.

It hurts the music ... it's just a bit of a travesty, and one of the people that is not going to get any credit is one man named Grahame Smith! I imagine that the "originals" in the band did not like the electric version of it and wanted to come back to the folk roots ... and sadly, in doing so, they also lower the ability and the quality of the band altogether.

Didn't String Driven Thing have as a member the guy who played violin on Van der Graaf's album?

Makes sense, they toured together along with Genesis on the 6 shilling tour. They were all signed to Charisma records at the time.

First album only I think ... which apparently is the label that hurt them a lot.

The rest is on Harvest, which is/was Pink Floyd's label, and with Hipgnosis covers.
