Are you really a Genesis fanatic? Can you name these 10 songs from the top of your head? If you do. You then please make the next challenge.

1. Why do we suffer each race to believe that no race has been grander?

2. Beware the fisherman who's casting out his line into a dried up riverbed.

3. And will I wait forever beside the silent mirror and fish for bitter minnows amongst the weeds and slimy water?

4. I will now recieve my comfort conjured by the magic power of wine!

5. I am only a child of hers, my guardian Goddess, now I'm reaching my journey's end inside her womb.

6. Over the rooftops and houses, lost as it tries to be seen, fields of incentive covered with green.

7. Now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul.

8. And I want and I feel and I know and I touch her.

9. Pethagaurus with the looking glass reflects the full moon.

10. And when the master calls for me again, there's nothing that I can say or I can do.

Give it a shot. If I was guessing. No. 5 would probably stump me.
Please feel free to answer individual songs if you can't get them all.

I want to say number 2 is something along the lines of "Can-Utility and the Coastliners"...

And number 4, something like "One for the Vine" or "The Lady Lies"...

Number 10 is tricky for some reason. And 5, I'm just not sure which song it is, and I'm too lazy to check it out  Stern Smile

I must say, for you getting those 6, if it was straight from your head, you my friend are a Genesis holic.
However your pot-shots for the remaining 4 are like the difference between shotting a bullet and throwing it.

Be honest, did you do a lyric search? If not, and if you like those 4 songs there as much as I, well I will toast on your behalf! I rank Twilight Ale House way up there. Open Door nearly brings me to tears and heathaze just flows with wonderful lyrics! As for the first album, I am a fan. Those songs all grew on me. The Conqueror, In Hiding etc.

I knew 5 was from the first album, but couldn't get the song name.  10. I couldn't place at all.  I knew all the rest.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Yeah I got them all legitimately, I also love From Genesis to Revelation, i don't think i've ever heard anyone with a good thing to say about it until your good self, of course I'm not over fond of the production but the songs are goodSmile Twilight Alehouse is a great song, the b-side to I Know What I like of course, its where i first encountered it.Beer

The 4th side of the regular (not import) Three Sides Live.
1st track is that piece of crap they used to sell the album called "Paper Late"
There is also a longer storytelling "Me and Virgil".
"Evidence of Autumn" is a wonderful track and then there is "Open Door".
The song is about a slave in love with another slave. Awesome.
There is a 5th song but I can't think of it off the top of my head! But it is good as well.
Well, there it is. (Amadeus)

I have about 10 recordings of Twilight Ale House from live bootlegs etc, as well as archives All but 1 is excellent! I also have many recordings of Stagnation. ONLY 1 other is decent! It seemed when they did Stag live they drowned out or improperly miked up the guitars, you know the strum I'm talking about. Where banks comes in overhead and flies his keys. That is the most feel good pick you up section. I finally meet someone that really knows Genesis!
Do you have a recording of "The Reaper"?

Wow! Lucky You, I think the only live performance of Twilight Alehouse I've heard is the Belgian TV special. I've only heard Stagnatin live once too, from the Piper club Rome recordingsUnhappy..its also my favourite song on Trespass. The Reaper??? Eh No I don't think so anyway???? Is it from the Trespass era? I do have many Bootlegs that I bought in the 80's but to be honest my vinyl collection is in storage so I  may actually have it, but I haven't listened to them in many years.

I am semi new to the forum here. I'd like to help you acquire what I have. How can we communicate in private to exchange e mail etc?
The Reaper came out on a Genesis cd I bought called "Studio" evidently it is rare. It was made around '73 because it has Selling outtakes. But it also has 2 recording of Silver Song (supposedly never released) as well as A Child's song (supposedly never released). Those and The Reaper are Anthony Phillips songs that Collins and Rutherford maybe even Banks helped with. However "The Reaper" is just Anthony and his guitar. Go to youtube "Anthony Phillips The Reaper". I'm listening now. Tell me it's not one of the most beautiful pieces you've ever heard. But, again, I found it on a Genesis cd.
Well, there it is. (Amadeus)

Reaper (nice tune alright) is an Anthony Philips song!, thats why it didn't register with me, its off one of his Private Pieces albums, the truly excellent Silver Song is also one of his from Geese and the Ghost, only played that last week as it happens....Where would Genesis be if Philips hadn't left I wonder? of course we wouldn't have had Hackett then, its a hard one to callErmm

I think it was Genesis's biggest mistake to let Phillips go. Who cares if he couldn't play live! Keep him in the studio!
Silver Song isn't on Geese & Ghost (My favorite). I wish I owned all the Private Pts & Pieces! I think there is like 22 or 27 of them? Check out a more recent album of his called Slow Dance. Wonderful. It is Slow Dance pt. 1 and Slow Dance part 2. Part 1 with each listen I adore it more and more. I think Phillips led the way for Hackett. I mean hell, he wrote the Musical Box!
Well, there it is. (Amadeus)
