An interview with Renaissance founder Jim McCarty.

Jim talked a lot about The Yardbirds (he was their drummer) and how that experience broadened his musical horizons, leading up to his 2009 solo album, which has a lot of flute and very subdued drums, along with Steve Hackett on guitar.

He covered a lot of ground about the writing process and how spirituality plays a role. And he talked about the famous Yardbirds guitarists: Page, Beck and Clapton.

Hi,

Nice ... and it also has a nice look and mention of the anti-war sentiment that was going around a lot of music in London ... and how people reacted to the music, and how it was seen and done.

It is also a really good look at the music and what it was doing.

On the same website, you should all read the Ian Anderson interview ... it pretty much gives away what became known as "progressive" ... which really was more about people being independent and wanting to experiment and try different things.

And, it has my favorite one ... the mention of the AM and FM radio ... and it's true ... Led Zeppelin never released a single ... because AM radio did not play long cuts! But FM radio made its living off those cuts! Specially in America.

Were it not the rise and advent of FM radio, I am not sure that "progressive" music would have made its name, or it would have taken a lot longer than it did. Instead, a lot of bands took off doing long cuts and some were nice and some were fine, some were dandy ... but for my ear ... in the earlier days in California and Chicago, there were bands also doing long cuts! ... we just don't think they are worth it, or progressive.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
