Topic: Favorite Mars Volta Album Posted: March 14 2011 at 17:52 |
I am almost certain that someone else has done this poll before (in fact, I think I remember participating in a poll similar to this a few years back), but I felt like making this poll just to see what everyone's opinions are. What is your favorite Mars Volta album?
I think Amputechture is their best. It is, in my opinion, highly under rated in their discography and the least looked at. Meccamputechture and Viscera Eyes are among the best songs they have done. Vicarious Atonement is a fantastic way to start off the album, with Tetragrammation being a great way to kick off the album. Even the short song, Vermicide, and the weakest song on the album, Asilos Magdalena, are great. Day of the Baphomets is a fantastic song and I found the slowed down, trippy El Ciervo Vulnerado to be a great album closer.

Would you like some Bailey's?

I don't have one- all of them are four star for me.
I do like the first three more than the other two, but if pressed, I'd say...I'm pressed!

Their debut.
After The Mute, they quickly went downhill IMO.

I don't get the Deloused love, I'm very, very much a Frances person. I think it's top 3 of all time material, but Deloused is simply a 'good' record, and probably my 4th favourite TMV album... Aaah well I'll just listen to Frances twice :)
None of them are bad though:
1. Frances The Mute (Every song is a masterpiece. Headphones are the only sensible way to listen)
2. The Bedlam In Goliath (to be taken in short breaks for greatest effect, otherwise it feels like being sonically punched repeatedly, hard)
3. Amputechture (couple of duff songs, but some amazing ones too. Tetragrammaton lacks any soul/drive)
4. Deloused In The Comatorium (Second half is dull, first half is great)
5. Octahedron (Smatterings of genius, amongst boring poppy songs. Luciforms is one of the best tracks of all time)

Fixed But seriously, i think Amputecture is the best, but the first 3 are all just amazing. Bedlam was good, but a little too much if not in the mood. The most recent one has little return value, as i only enjoy 3, maybe 4 tracks. I'm waiting for the new album details to come out, for i can see getting back into them around then. That is when ill give the most recent album another try. ive also noticed a lack of discussion of this band in the last couple of years. I'm assuming it is because of the most recent album being lack-luster in the eyes (and ears) of many. Not to mention they've taken their time with coming out with a new album this time around. I'm sure TMV bug will go around these parts sooner or later

Amputecture is by far the least enjoyable of the bunch for me. Honestly, I find nothing of value there. Even Bedlem had its moments. Maybe, and I mean maybe, I could get seven minutes out of Amp, but thats probably an exaggeration.

I've thought Frances The Mute since the album came out, but recently I've been enjoying Deloused more.
No vote yet.
