So it's

Robert Fripp /  guitar
Mel Collins / winds
Tony Levin / bass, stick
Gavin Harrison / drums
Jakko Jackszyk / 2nd guitar?

...right?

(who is Jackszyk?)

In short, he's a 52 year old session musician who's played with a lot of important artists (including Fripp and Harrison). He was also in the 21st Century Schizoid Band, which covered early Crimson material.

And he's released a solo album or two, including the Bruised Romantic Glee Club, which is an album of original material followed by a disc of cool covers of everything from King Crimson to Henry Cow and Soft Machine.

From Fripp's blog:

Unexpectedly, the JJ & RF project became a ProjeKct, via JF&C and JF&C with L&H. Unexpected, but not surprising given the Crimson gene pool. And, for the first time since 1981, there is more English in the genes than American, in the ratio 4:1.

This unexpectedness is welcome: it suggests there is more going on than could be predicated merely on what has gone before. And yet, once here, there is familiarity; like meeting a close member of the family for the first time, one whose education & upbringing was elsewhere & outside the family town. If we were looking for precedent, such as while arguing for a particular Crimson line of development with former manager SG Alder Esq. of EG, this might be along the lines of song-based Crimson; in distinction to a developing Crimson instrumentality after 1972 with Larks’, Fracture, Red and onto Discipline et al. Songs are always problematic because they come with both lyricists and singers, sometimes the functions combined. That a given, I enjoy playing with good singers more than anything.

Jakko is a first-generation Crimson-child whose life-courses were re-directed by the early KC albums plus live Crimson at Watford Town Hall on July 15th. 1971 and Hyde Park on September 4th. 1971.

This seems very interesting, probably will be my first 2011 purchase and first "KC ProjeKct" purchase as well.

It would be nice to have a tour or sorts for this but it is unlikely. I'm happy that Mr. Fripp got a bug up his bum and decided to put some music down for us mortals to hear. I can't wait for this to come out. Big smile

But 21st Century Schizoid Band wasn't just any band covering early King Crimson material, this band consisted of Mel Collins, Mike Giles, Peter Giles, Ian McDonald, and the so mentioned Jakko Jackzyk; Mike Giles was replaced later by Ian Wallace. So, as a matter of fact, this band consisted almost entirely of King Crimson members (except for Jakko, and now it could almost be said that he has become a King Crimson member himself). This band has released a few live albums and DVD's (by both versions of the band).

Jakko Jakszyk is incredible.  It's nice to see him working with these people.  I hope he sings a bit.  He has a great voice too!

I saw a video of 21st Century Schizoid Band with Jakko, and Indeed I really liked his singing... for me he's a better singer than any King Crimson singer, except for Lake (in his prime), and for some sort of songs, I guess he is even better.
