I, on the other hand, love it and think it one of the best. To each his or her own, and that kind of jazz really appeals to me. Excellent opener. Caravanserai for me.

I really like that opener as well, it's part of the whole flow of Caravanserai, an album that shouldn't be listened seperating tracks, IMO. Unlike Abraxas, which doesn't have a natural flow, typically of a rock album.
Plus, 'Eternal Caravan of Reincarnation' has a double bass, right? It sounds so cool, not something you're used to in a Santana album. (surely influenced by Garrisons' A Love Supreme bass lines)

I like Borboletta but there are some low points...mostly in the typical "songs".

Thus, I vote for the clear winner of this poll.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

^not sure if a masterpiece, but definitely an interesting album to check out. I still haven't give it enough spins, but it has some fine moments.

Nothing is a masterpiece, but this one is a really good album.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

This is the most difficult poll I have ever voted in on PA. I love both albums but the tipper for me is "Mirage" from Borboletta Cool

That's hitting the nail dead on its headClap

Indeed, not only are there some "songs" that are sung (a tad too much for my liking), but I'm not that much a fan of Patillo's voice  >>> well it's good enough, but compared to Gregg Rollie's on the early Santana, it pales...

keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

rather than un-sheath our sword

I haven't listened to it recently, but i find it a little cold.

and you have also the 72' "Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles Live" which is not bad with an excellent long piece if i remember well.
