I'm surprised this is so close to be honest. TD easily for me. I've been a fan for a long time and after an extended period when I hardly listened to them for years I've been playing their stuff a great deal.
Logan is absolutely spot on about those early TD albums by the way, they're essential. Zeit is great but the best of that era for me is Atem, a fantastic album just before they changed musical direction. The title track is simply out of this world, the second half of that piece is a truly amazing ambient sequence.

TD for me.....and I have always been surprised that so many people like Oldfield so much. I find his albums mediocre and even somewhat amateurish at times.

Tangerin Dream, both have many great albums but TD wins here.

I'd say TD had longer consistency in making good and refreshing albums, although Mike's first few albums are really great.

Although I like both, Mike is more diverse, so I voted for him.

It's tough enough to decide whose good stuff is better, but try to decide whose bad stuff is worse... It's a draw for me but chances are I'm biased against TD because I put up with more of their bad stuff.

A very hard thread indeed as both TD and Mike Oldfield are exceptional... I have well over 70 TD cd's in my collection, as before the year 2000, went mad buying every single cd they made... After that, got more into the traditional prog side of music with a lot of newer bands emerging.. It was a great break from TD.
TD have done a better range of styles in music over the years and I like most of their albums they made. I cannot say the same for Mike Oldfield and rate him around 70%.
For anyone here not knowing any TD music, I highly recommend their Compilation double cd " Dream Sequence " which plays a lot of their earlier stuff. The tracks seems to blend in well and they have their best cd's made around their earlier phase.

Ommadawn and Alpha Centauri are about equal in quality. After that, TD has 4 or 5 albums that I rank above anything else by Oldfield.
