Let's discuss bands who are plainly not Prog, despite there being some evidence that they could be.
 
For example, The Police.  Sting used to be in a Jazz/Fusion band.  Stewart Copeland was in Curved Air.  Andy Summers was in The Soft Machine for a few months in 1968, plus when he first met Sting he was touring with the orchestral version of Tubular Bells.  And he recorded a couple of albums with Robert Fripp in the early 80s (at the height of The Police's popularity).
Furthermore, when playing live The Police used to improvise onstage, and none of their songs were shorter than ten minutes.
All of this, however, does not mean that The Police are Prog.
 
Discuss, and suggest other bands who are not prog, while giving possible evidence that they could be.

I agree on this. They take a lot from the classic rock/prog sound, but the compositions beneath that yummy sound is standard alt.rock (very beautiful though).

An example I like to give when people start trying to define prog is Bruce Springsteen. Now we all agree that Springsteen is plainly not prog, but his second album contains the song "New York City Serenade," a te minute epic with multiple sections and and containing both jazz and classical influences. Other Springsteen sogs that might fit the prog bill are "Incident on 57th Street" and "Jungleland"

I'm starting to get a bit frustrated now.
 
Can anyone tell me how to embed a YouTube video into one of my posts.  I've tried using the embedding code and I've tried copying and pasting the URL but to no avail....
 
I know I must be doing something wrong but I just can't figure it out!!!

Step 1: Go to "Post Reply"

Step 2:  The topmost menu on "Post Reply" should include a range of options, including "Insert Hyperlink" and "Emoticons."  Click on the middle option (the film icon), "Insert Movie."  A new box should open, called "Movie Properties."

Step 3:  Copy and paste the entire URL of the YouTube movie into the "YouTube File Name" option in the new window.  You may first have to open a new window to find the movie on YouTube.  Once you have pasted the URL, hit "preview" to make sure it is the correct movie and URL.

Step 4:  Click "OK" in the "Movie Properties" box.

Step 5:  The code for your movie should be displayed in your message.  Click on "Preview Post" to see it embedded as it will appear in the actual forum post viewable by everyone.

Step 6: Once you are finished, hit "Post Reply" as normal.

Hopefully this helps, unless someone already replied to you before I got the chance. Smile

TOTO always include one or two jazz-rock or prog songs on their albums.
The first time I heard the song "better world" was on a french radio broadcast airing only prog rock :
 
And the argument linking the background of the musicians and their current band doesn't work cf Bad Brains, punk hardcore band which is comprised of people previously involved in a jazz-rock band.

I must honestly confess that I think Luke hade a bether guitar sound from he's old Valey Art guitars then from the Music Mann guitar. I know he swears to he's guitar developer, but he's black Valey Art with the naked skelleton is he's best guitar, sound, very heavy and nice clean sound.

Talking Heads, strong Gabriel/Fripp's influences, collaboration with Eno, and a David Byrne's solo carrier plenty of prog works, like the Forest.
