OHIO PROG 2012 ANNOUNCED FOR SEPTEMBER 7, 8 & 9 OF 2012

Ohio’s premiere progressive rock festival, OhioProg, announces its inaugural year.  OhioProg is set to take place over three days, September 7, 8 & 9 of 2012. An exceptional line-up has been assembled which includes a Friday pre-show, “A Tribute to the Classics,” and a Saturday & Sunday full-day main event.

The schedule features the Yes cover group Going for the One, and Script for a Jester’s Tour, a Marillion tribute act featuring original Marillion drummer Mick Pointer and Nick Barrett of Pendragon.  FM, a regrouping of Cameron Hawkins' Canadian progressive rock act, will headline day one of OhioProg 2012.  2011 marks the 35th anniversary of the band’s inception.  Headlining day two of OhioProg 2012, Dan Swanö and brother Dag Swanö return from Sweden to bring their progressive rock act, Nightingale, back to the US for their second ever appearance, their first since 2001.  Mick Pointer, Clive Nolan, John Jowitt, John Mitchell and Paul Manzi round out the all-star cast of the veteran UK progressive rock band that is Arena.  Jowitt returns to Arena on bass and the band will have a new album under their belt before OhioProg 2012.  RC2 from Barcelona will be making their first US appearance at OhioProg 2012.  After nearly 20 years together, Persephone’s Dream of Pittsburgh will be making their first ever northeast Ohio appearance at OhioProg 2012, as will Maryland's Orphan Project.  Connecticut based band, After the Fall, have regrouped for an OhioProg 2012 appearance. After the Fall’s last release, “kNOwleDGE,” came out in 2005.  Additionally, hailing from Florida, progressive rock festival veterans, Cryptic Vision, return to the festival circuit with a new album forthcoming, the third album in a trilogy started in 2003 with “Moments of Clarity”.  Additional acts will be announced in coming months.

OhioProg 2012 has turned to Kickstarter to help ensure its success by rolling out a “Pledge Your Ticket” program. By pledging at various tiers you can secure a ticket of your choice to either the Pre-Show or Main Event, or both.  A number of rewards will be given for specialized pledges, and patron tickets are available for those who wish to have first choice of seats.  Pledging begins September 2nd, 2011 and is a great way to show your support to the progressive rock festival community even if you are unable to attend the festival.  Pledges start as low as $1, and even non-attendees can walk away with an OhioProg 2012 program, poster, t-shirt or limited edition compilation by pledging at the appropriate tier.  Pledges will fund all aspects of the festival including all operational, marketing, and transportation costs.  “Pledge Your Ticket” funding goals must be reached by the end of the day on November 30th, 2011. Pledges will only be processed on November 30th if the festival reaches its funding goals.  If funding goals are not met, the festival will be cancelled and pledge funds will not be processed.

The location for OhioProg 2012 will be released in the upcoming weeks.  More information and news on OhioProg 2012 can be seen at the festivals website, http://ohioprog.com. Any questions may be directed to [email protected]. Latest updates on OhioProg 2012 can also be found on our Facebook page, our mySpace page, or by following us on Twitter @OhioProg.

OhioProg 2012, taking place September 7th through the 9th of 2012, will be held at the Canton Palace Theatre located at 605 Market Avenue North in Downtown Canton, Ohio. This 1509 seat theatre originally opened in 1926 and each seat provides a glorious view of the stage and scenery.

OhioProg announces the addition of Glass Hammer and Kinetic Element to the OhioProg 2012 festival line-up.

Glass Hammer is a symphonic-progressive rock band from the USA. Multi-instrumentalists Steve Babb and Fred Schendel formed the band in 1992 and will be celebrating their 20th anniversary at OhioProg 2012. The band recently released their 14th studio album Cor Cordium which is a follow-up to last year's highly acclaimed If. Glass Hammer is certainly one of the most well-known and highly regarded progressive rock acts over the last 20 years and will be featured as a headliner alongside FM, Nightingale and Arena. They will play ahead of FM on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

You can listen to two tracks from Glass Hammer on the OhioProg Soundcloud and/or the Glass Hammer artist page. "Nothing Box" from their latest Cor Cordium and "If the Stars" from last year's If.

Kinetic Element hail from Richmond, Virginia and released their debut album Powered by Light in 2009. The band formed as an outlet to perform the solo material of composter and keyboard player Mike Visaggio. The group quickly created their own identity and began playing alongside some of today's foremost progressive rock acts including Circa and IZZ. Kinetic Element will perform in the first slot on Sunday, September 9, 2012. The Kinetic Element artist page will be updated with audio tracks soon.

Tickets are available now and until January 2, 2012 for the OhioProg 2012 festival through Kickstarter.  It is important to note that if the funding goal is not met the festival will be canceled. All of the ticketing info and additional event info can be found on the ticketing page and on the OhioProg website.

We'd love to add more bands, but we've got quite a full schedule already! Approve

And we also would certainly like to consider them and other bands in the future and make this an annual event but in order to do that we need to get the inaugural year off the ground first. Have you gotten in there to pledge your ticket yet?

Thank you for that!!! Sorry for the confusion... we're trying to reach out to so many people and sometimes we don't notice or know who is who. You certainly are well aware of the stacked line-up then! Wink

Thanks again!

Ijust pledged $300.00 last night. A buddy of mine also pledge that amount. So that means that only 25 other people have pledged. The festival is at less than 10% of its goal with only another month left, which means that it won't come anywhere close to being reached. The line-up is fantastic. Benoit David's first-rate band Mystery would come if invited, yet they didn't even know about it. The organizers have to step up marketing efforts big-time, or this will be another huge and visible black eye a la the last nearfest. We have to demonstrate to these non-American bands that it is worth their time coming over here. This line-up is largely top tier. The Marillion inspired and led "Script'  with Pendragon genius Nick Barrett is worth the price of admission alone. So is Glass Hammer. So is Arena. Heck, half of Pendragon has committed (Barrett and Nolan) so Pendragon should play as well. I just don't understand the pitiful response so far. What do you guys think? What do you have to say about it, Mr. Thompson?

Thanks for your interest in the festival and of course your pledge. Please contact me via email [email protected] as I'd be happy to discuss this at length with you as we are just as boggled as you are. We've done extensive promotion, have had a far reach and we also agree that it is an extremely solid lineup.

Looking forward to speaking with you further! Thanks for expressing your concern.

There are now only 30 days left to get your ticket to the OhioProg 2012 festival. Thanks to those that have already pledged their ticket(s)! As you can see, there is a long way to go to reach the funding goal. However if it is easier to view it in terms of tickets, around 415 more tickets need to be pledged at the various levels in order to reach the goal otherwise this great event will be canceled. We've seen and heard interest from enough people over the past several months to make this happen, so we know you're out there!! Last week we announced the addition of two more bands to the OhioProg 2012 lineup; Glass Hammer & Kinetic Element. The announcement can be found on the OhioProg website.

http://www.ohioprog.com/news/4553607931/GLASS-HAMMER-KINETIC-ELEMENT-ADDED-TO-OHIOPROG-2012-LINE-UP/497473

Glass Hammer will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with a performance at the festival and it will prove to be one you will not want to miss! OhioProg 2012 now boasts a tremendous 15 band lineup representing 5 countries featuring headliners FM, Nightingale, Arena & Glass Hammer.

Cryptic Vision have kindly contributed 30 copies of their 2006 album "In a World" to the ticketing campaign, so the next 30 people to pledge their ticket will get their very own "In a World" album!! So if you are going, why not pledge your ticket now!

This is a great opportunity to be a part of an event funded by the fans, for the fans and enjoyed by the fans of progressive rock. Tell your friends, fans, any and all people who might help support this event and turn it into a reality. Stress to them the urgency of pledging their ticket if they want to or are planning on going. Even if you can't attend you can pledge to and help support the event and receive rewards like a live compilation CD of performances recorded at the fest, digital download, poster and more. We here at the Ohio Progressive Rock Association look forward to seeing you at OhioProg 2012!!

I recently pledged $300.00 for a three-day package of first-rate seats and extras. What shocks me is that only about thirty other people have pledged. The venue is intimate, only 1,500 seats, and the line-up is very good: Arena, a new Marillion offshoot that includes the incomparable Nick Barrett, Glass Hammer and many more. Heck, I would go just for one of these bands. I wonder if people know that with the pledging system no money is taken off the credit card unless the goals are met. I talked to the promoter who told me that the goal, if met, would still be below his breakeven. So this Thompson fellow doesn't appear to be greedy. He seemed like  a nice, sensible guy over the phone. One of the issues apparently is that Kickstarter arbitrarily changed the pledged period from 90 to 60 days, which doesn't allow enough time. Plus, not a good time of year for most people money-wise. There is also some backlash because some view this show as competition for RoSFest. I like the line-ups for both, and would like to attend both. Is competition a bad thing? Having both these shows would be a blessing for fans. I hope more people support the Ohio effort. I say this selfishly. I really want to attend the damn thing!! Plus, we don't need more events canceled in this genre.

Pledged $300.00 level this week & am hopeful enough pledges will come through in time for the show to go forward...Incredible lineup, including my favorites GH, Arena and SFAJT (love Nick & Clive)...Never been to RosFest or NearFest, so haven't seen Pendragon, live, in any form, but huge fan since mid-90's! So many incredible prog bands out there, can't count 'em all! Hope this OhioProg really happens, and hope to see Mystery & Transatlantic before my candle finally goes out!

Looks like 2-3 people per day are now pledging at an average of $270 or so. If this pace were maintained from the beginning - and kickstarter didn't screw the promoter over by unilaterally changing the pledge period to 60 days from 90 days - there would have been a fighting chance of making the goal. Hopefully this pace continues (or even picks up) and Mr. Thompson does another 60 day deal with kickstarter starting in January. This would be the last potential 60 day pledge period because at least six months lead time is required before the concert. From what he told me, the existing pledges will not automatically roll over but can just pledge anew. I know I will.

OK, you know this is Mike of Kinetic Element. Everybody, if you read this, there are 15 bands who want very much to perform for you. We're not looking to undermine Prog Day, you have to know that. If you are not going to Prog day especially, please get over to www.ohioprog.com and pledge your tickets today. If you just are a prog lover who wants this to happen and you cannot come, please make a donation so this thing can be launched and a new ticket selling window can be opened once they are off Kickstarter. Remember you don't get charged if the goal is not met but if it IS met you get tickets or satisfaction or both!. PLUS (ahem) the first ten who pledge $180 or more (that;s the price of one three-day pass) and tell Allen you saw this post, I will send you a Kinetic Element "Powered b y Light" CD to say thanks once he tells me you contacted him.
Prog Lives. It keeps us young.
