This

YES--Rush even said after Relayer came out--that they wish they could do something like that--they admired it so much-I bet they do.

It's Yes, but Rush sure has a better longivity record. And they've gotten so much better with age when it comes to their concert performances. Just bitchin'. Their 30th anniversary show from Germany shown on Palladia in the past year was brilliant!

Both bands are great.  tadapdavis is right; Geddy Lee stated that they were influenced by Yes and Genesis in an interview and the members of Rush are all pretty humble so they would probably say Yes.

Just give it all an hour by the concrete lake.

Jon's aren't really an acquired taste. They're a little gay, but rather inoffensive. Geddy's vocals are shreiky, and I could totally understand somebody not liking them

Not really. First of all, Geddy is not shrieky from Permanent Waves onwards and that's the bulk of their output.  Jon may not be shrieky but he's a friggin' robot, sorely lacking in emotion or energy.  With that told, there are very few singers in prog who I'd enjoy enough to listen irrespective of the music so it doesn't matter to me either way. I like Geddy's singing more but I prefer Yes's music. More interesting. I'll twist what Teo said a little: if I wanted rock, I'd grab ROCK. In prog, I want to hear interesting concepts and diverse influences are a bonus. The need to be "hard rocking" only comes in the way of exploration, if anything.  Let that not give you the impression that I dislike Rush or anything, they are one of my favourites too.

<-------- my avatar says it all. But those are my top 2 favorite bands. Although I've been listening less to them lately as I'm still building up and listening to more and more different bands and types of prog.

Although I love both bands, Yes is my choice. They did influence Rush at one stage of their career, not to mention Chris' impact on Geddy's playing.

Rush, but it's fairly close.

I like both singers equally. I prefer Lifeson as guitarist. I think he's much better, certainly more listenable than Howe. I think Rush have the edge lyrically too. Rush lyrics are always well thought out, and intelligently themed. I suspect many Yes lyrics are chosen because the words sound good with the music.

Rush...I was really hoping that this would have gone the other way just because.

I don't particularly like either band all that much, but I like Rush more than yes.

Yes. Rush simply does not have an album of the caliber of The Yes Album, Fragile or Close to the Edge. I would rate those three higher than comparable Rush LPs like 2112 or Hemispheres. I will say that Rush has remained more consistent than Yes over the decades.

Ouch. 2 of my top 3 bands.

Given that I saw Rush yesterday (and their spectacular performance), I will vote for them today.

Yes is cool but they lack the edginess and lyrical sophistication of Rush. Plus Geddy sings better than Jon.

Waw. You are incredibly different from me.

Yes has some good albums, but it's Rush.

Yes; I like Rush but in my mind there's really no comparing them.

Yes is great for me, but there is no topping Rush IMO....

And Genesis will be the third.  So let it be written, so let it be done.

About 10 years ago I would have said Yes, but now I'm Rush crazy. Yes no longer has Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. Benoit David sucks.
