Some but compare against the real groove/funk masters of brass rock Tower of Power???

Naughty to include jazz rock/jazz funk bands, since in particular, that's what their business is about. So to to add, the more recent bands:  check out Adam Holzman & Brave New World, Jeff Babko, Luke Stone, No Jazz, Denis Rawlin's Band, some of Garaj Mahal's output and even the Poles do it in the form of the Pilichowski Band:

or

And allowing myself one dip back into the 70's with a recent discovery,  try Larry Young's Fuel.

Kraan is probably the single funkiest prog band. A lot of stuff listed under Jazz Rock/Fusion can be funky. Generally, only a handful of songs by prog bands can be said to be funky. Here's a few more examples to check out:

SBB "Jerzyk"

National Health "Zabaglione" (features Bill Bruford on drums)

Kraan performing "Jerk Of Life"

He was just mind blowing. I saw him play Classical music with bow in hand with RTF in May of 77". I was more excited over the "Romantic Warrior" line up, but just to see Clarke perform solo like that is a fine memory
