Didn't even vote, Slart.' What a couple of albums that have no business being compared to each other. The deal here is that Discipline is this cold-hearted affair that showcases two outstanding guitar players and their ability to weave intricate fret work into rhythms of who knows what. Saw the show backing this album, and thank God for the oldies. Abacab, on the other hand, at least offered melodies and more variety in the music department. It's not perfect, it's a little poppy, but otherwise puts a good face forward for the band after the awkward, bombastic Puke. |
Fine fine fine don't vote. Beat is beating Abacab.

Oops! Saw that you were comparing Abacab to Beat. Silly me. I'll still take the former. Not a big fan of Belew's voice.

Though it isn't my absolutely favorite the 80's King Crimson has so much going on, gotta love it. Definitely that, I hate pop music and I never liked any Genesis.

Beat is far more interesting in my opinion, but neither of the two albums are particularly wonderful.

Not only in my opinion, but according to majority of PA reviewers. However, it´s still a good album, unlike Abacab.

Good, but non-essential

But the PA community says that Abacab is good (even when not essential) : you just pasted the proof yourself

Maybe more of a playful track than a joke.

Looking at the tracks on each, Beat only had Heartbeat which was strictly geared to commercial audiences. The bulk of Abacab is. Sarah Jane, Keep It Dark, Dodo/Lurker, and yes Whodunnit, are the high points. Always amuses me how people get their panties in a wad about the last one. It's a joke people, come on.

I admire '80's Crimson. I think they had a lot of artistic credibility. Still, Abacab gets my vote. I think Genesis was innovating too in those days, going to short, concise songs, and I think there are no bad compositions on the album at all. "Abacab", "Me And Sarah Jane" and "Keep It Dark" in particular stand out, but all the songs on the album are good.

I have never heard Beat and Abacab is a mediocre album full of songs that don't just make their mark. Two good reasons to keep away from voting...
