Topic: Abacab vs. Beat Posted: July 06 2011 at 18:30 |
I personally didn't like either of these as much as their predecessors. I suspect King Crimson will get a wider margin.

I think Beat is the best of 80s KC.

Beat for me!
I dont mind the poppy Genesis all that much really. But Abacab really does nothing for me and is bad in any sense.

Easy one - Beat. Genesis kind of "jumped the shark" with Abacab.

Beat is probably one of the worst Crimson albums, but still it´s Prog Rock. On the other hand, Abacab is pure Pop. No contest.

I have never heard Beat and Abacab is a mediocre album full of songs that don't just make their mark. Two good reasons to keep away from voting...

I admire '80's Crimson. I think they had a lot of artistic credibility. Still, Abacab gets my vote. I think Genesis was innovating too in those days, going to short, concise songs, and I think there are no bad compositions on the album at all. "Abacab", "Me And Sarah Jane" and "Keep It Dark" in particular stand out, but all the songs on the album are good.

Looking at the tracks on each, Beat only had Heartbeat which was strictly geared to commercial audiences. The bulk of Abacab is. Sarah Jane, Keep It Dark, Dodo/Lurker, and yes Whodunnit, are the high points. Always amuses me how people get their panties in a wad about the last one. It's a joke people, come on.

Maybe more of a playful track than a joke.
