Don't know why this was locked, I moved it earlier and perhaps a glitch:

Art Zoyd
Magma
Heldon
Univers Zero
The Residents or Present

If I could count these artists as bands: Miles Davis, Robert Wyatt, and Herbie Hancock

There are some not in PA that I would think worthy, and could fit a this poll as artists such as Ennio Morricone and Egisto Macchi, but I won't.

Magma of course.  Could just about pick any 5 of their albums but I will pick these as my masterpieces:
-Magma aka Kobaia
-1001 Centigrades
-Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh
-Kohntarkosz
-Attahk

Art Zoyd's first five albums sound like masterpieces to me.

Can:
-Monster Movie
-Tago Mago
-Ege Bamyasi
-Future Days
-Soon Over Babaluma

King Crimson (haters etc)
-In the Court
-Lizard
-Islands
-Lark's Tongues
-Starless and Bible Black

Pink Floyd (see above)
-Saucerful of Secrets
-Ummagumma
-Atom Heart Mother
-Meddle
-Obscured By Clouds

edit: Oh and TD's first 7 are masterpieces, of course

Jethro Tull, Isis, Neurosis, Primus, Boris (f**k y'all they so prog), Swans (likewise), Agalloch (if you count EPs), Opeth, and Kayo Dot also come to mind.

I could have listed some crazier bands but decided to mostly stick to what more people listen to.

This topic is completely subjective. One person's masterpiece could be another person's "good album" or bad album, for that matter. And likewise, one man's trash...

But regardless:

Soft Machine
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Bundles

Pink Floyd
Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall

Zappa
Freak Out!, Uncle Meat, Hot Rats, Over-Nite Sensation, Roxy & Elsewhere, Apostrophe

KC
In the Court of the Crimson King, In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard, Lark's Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, Red

Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin, 2, 3, 4, Houses of the Holy, Presence

The Beatles
Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The Beatles (White Album), Abbey Road, Let It Be

Just because the 5 bands I chose are groups that people have heard of doesn't mean it's not my opinion.

Hmm

These come close:
Floyd
Tangerine Dream
Schulze
Amon Düül ll
Magma
Area
Porcupine Tree
Eberhard Weber
Can
Popol Vuh

BUT - do they each have 5 masterpieces under their belt or more, I don´t think so. Some of these reach 4 though.

I think he wants us to say what the masterpieces are too, not just the bands

Samla/Zamla: Maltid, Klossa Knapitatet, Snorungarnas Symfoni, Familjesprickor, and...I realize I've only heard those four. Embarrassed
