It is not pride that I feel for progressive music; rather, it is the inherent superiority I have over those poor sods who listen to lesser and decidedly inferior musical genres. If they were holding tin cups, I would gladly toss in a nickel.  Wink
...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

The obvious angle is songs that might be appreciated by non proggies but still very proggie sounding.
Perhaps:
Solsbury Hill
Northern Lights
Fanfare For The Common Man
Wonderous Stories
Paranoid Android

yep they were all 'hits' but still display the genre in a positive light imo.

I love prog and I'm happy I do, but I don't know why should I feel proud about it. Prog gives me wonderful experiences but it also makes my life more difficult in some respects, and as somebody said I didn't actually do or achieve anything myself by liking prog. I have written some music (in prog style of course) but it's not that good as to feel proud about it. And me and some friends used to play prog covers and had lots of fun and enjoyment but I do not play good enough to feel really proud of that either.

All the songs you mention are great of course!

No, more songs that you play proudly to your friends, even if they don't understand it.

I like this angle!  You might also include:  Yes-Roundabout; Jethro Tull-Aqualung; Kansas-Carry On Wayward Son.  And I know I am missing a bunch more just right now...

Under The Sky by Pete Sinfield.
And I believe the proper choice of words would be 'thankful' or 'grateful' instead of 'proud'.

As to what songs make me 'thankful' or 'grateful', the list is too long and I have a tendency to go overboard in posting videos.

Yes - Roundabout is perfect in this context. Aqualung possibly although Living In The Past might be better ,Carry On Wayward Son definitely.

It’s about time somebody made a song called It Makes a Fellow Proud to be a Proggie. It could start like this:

The heart of every prog rock fan must surely swell with pride
For our self-indulgent heroes who are loathed far and wide
For the fascinating quirks and idosyncracies they share
and the quaint and curious costumes that they always seem to wear

You can all contribute. For inspiration, see this:

He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing

It was just a bit of fun. Smile

Back on topic: I’m generally not proud of liking a certain kind of music, still I’ve had one experience that sort of fits in here. A friend of mine was in Italy when he sent me an SMS. He was obviously discussing music with a friend, so he asked me if i knew King Crimson’s Red. I answered that I knew it very well and that Starless is one of my favourite songs ever. Then he replied that his friend thought I had good taste in music. That made me feel … proud or something. I guess this person – whom I had never met – was Italian, which explains a lot, of course. I once met an Italian woman who had taught herself English by studying Genesis lyrics.
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing
