Weather forecast: Rain, rain and more bloody rain.

Forget prog while you are here in Scotland. Just enjoy the scenery. The few prog rock bands here are mainly in studio, on holiday in Spain, in hospital due to drowning (happens if you spend some hours outdoors, even faraway from water) or in a pub. To my knowledge; there is no prog scene up here.

Keltic bands (Celtic = a football club whose name divides Scotland into two polar, sectarian opposites) = Abel Ganz, Iona, Comedy Of Errors, Pallas.

But forget this and enjoy the scenery instead. Not to forget; a good haggis meal.

Mike Odlfied - Ommadawn
Yoke Shire, but they're more on the Irish side. Still worth it though.
Property of Queen Productions...

Yeah, Oldfield's Ommadawn is the most obvious choice.

Not Scottish per si, but definitly celtic influenced, the likes of Mostly Autumn (first 3 albums) and Alan Stivell should float your boat.

Going to the West Coast ? Going to Skye ? There are some superb fish and chips take out places in Portree. Best fish in Scotland. Camping........ stock up on the midge repellant stuff. The midges are horrendous and far worse than the rain.

I do a lot of camping myself on the west coast. I love it. I actually live there so that is my own playground.

Haggis dinners are superb food and deserve to be tried.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you want any advice. I am a local and use the nature a lot. I also have online guides for your leasure.

Iona rules without a doubt (guitarist Dave Bainbridge's solo album is a must) but also Karnataka and The Morrigan (as well as Colin Masson's solo work).
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Everything but those cheap bagpipe albums. Play that on your stereo rack and you will end up attracting every non-neutred male cat within half a mile. Having dozens of singing & hissing cats outside your house is no fun.

It may be more of an English Folk influence, but Jethro Tull's Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses.

The cool thing about your plan is that if you take music that is new to you along for the trip, the music will likely remind you of the trip when you play it after you're back.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Hi,

Bull pucky!

The only reason why I would visit some of these areas would be to have a dinner or a cup of tea with our PA friends ... the rest is not important!

Whjo gives a dang about some silly music, when you can have a heck of an evening doing nothing and enjoy everything?

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
