Topic: Altar of Plagues vs. Wolves in the Throne Room Posted: September 16 2011 at 01:00 |
I just came across these two bands and I haven't listened to much of either but so far, I'm liking Altar a little better. I'll hold my vote until later though when I've listened to more. Tell me what you think.

Wolves in the Throne Room (probably the best band name of all time there). Thats 3 good albums in a row now and I've still yet to hear Diadem of 12 Stars.
White Tomb might be the best album that either of these two bands has released, but I'm not that impressed with the new AoP album Mammal, and the descriptions of the various EP's mean I'm unlikely to go for them.

Altar Of Plagues is just about the only atmospheric black metal I can listen to without it becoming irksome. Wolves in the Throne Room are talented, but I think the drumming ruins it....

I can see what you mean about WitTR drumming, definitely not their strongest point. Have you ever tried Fen, probably the best of the atmospheric black metal bands IMO.

I haven't actually. I'll make a note to get a hold of Epoch when I have the chance, thanks. It seems right up my street!

Wolves In The Throne Room by a little bit, even if just spurred on by Two Hunters.
