I'm pleased someone picked Fanfare. It suffered a bit from the Smoke On The Water/Money syndrome of too much airplay on radio breading contempt but it is a unique track and Palmer never sounded or played better than on the studio version. Apparently they tried hard to improve on the first studio take but in the end settled on their initial performance with a few overdubs. It was a little bit of magic that was never to be repeated.

If I'm playing music while I've got non prog fans over for drinks or dinner, Fanfare is always on my 'prog lite' play list. It's always fairly well recieved too.

When I want folks to go home, I'll slip on some Gentle Giant..

Trilogy is the best song by ELP then Tarkus are second , i like the West End  sound of Trilogy it's operatic sounds is beautifull and the frentic instrumental section is fuled with tonns of energy.

I seem to remember reading somwhere that something happened to the mastertape of the first recording of Trilogy and they had to redo it. Apparently the first version was even better.

Two people have now included Living Sin in their selection. I've always liked this track. Bit darker than normal ELP fare with Palmer laying down a sort of groovy beat. Lake sounds almost 'nasty' while Emerson ..is just brilliant. Some ELP fans  actually regard this as 'filler'.

^ Indeed, it's always sounded 'improvised in the studio' to me (which is no slight on its merits) and probably the best song Deep Purple didn't writeWink. I like how they exploit the quasi oriental implications of the lengthy riff, which unlike most heavy rock vehicles, takes several measures to resolve itself.

I'm not very familiar with much Emerson, Lake & Palmer, but "Jerusalem" is definitely my favourite so far.

It's just... beautiful.

Slightly off topic but this a tribute version of ELP's rendition of Jerusalem that is actually rather good
