Hard to say. He has been known as a solo artist for many years, but his first fame came from a band in which he played bass and some other instruments (a personal note: I support the inclusion of this band in Proto-Prog).

^Yes. Most of his albums with girls appearing on the cover are soundtracks dating from the 90's. A girl can be found on the cover of one of his 70's studio albums, but not in the foreground.

To add another hint: Not the symphonic and eclectic prog giants, but the names of Kevin Ayers and Brian Eno appear on his curriculum vitae. So does Terry Riley (Prog Related, just like him).
