Catcher: A day or two before actually.
Angelo: Couldn't be more wrong about the cheese. A lot of PA members love their cheese. |

No......I like both albums very much and I play them almost weekly (along with many others in their catalog). Hemisphere is "half of a sphere".......my made up title is just the "King" acknowledging these 2 coming together as they should....in my world
I am perfectly fine with what Rush have done over the past 35 yrs.

Even though I don't fully agree to the text in bold, it probably is the answer to your own question. Albums on this site don't get 5 stars for being cheesy, or for containing pop songs. It wasn't named ProgArchives just because it sounds cool... |

You know these are the only two Rush albums I have and after reading this thread I have to conclude that they are both crap and I should throw them out and never get any more Rush albums.

I am shocked by the hate for Cygnus X-1 Book 1. It's an obvious classic imo.
As for Signals being a classic, we can all have our own personal favourites (one person, the only female prog junkie I personally know actually, thinks Roll The Bones is their best album) but "officially" I think the Rush canon of classics is pretty much agreed to be 2112 to Moving Pictures and nothing on either side of that. I will say that since Vapor Trails they seem to be experiencing a thoroughly unexpected late career renaissance. I hope Clockwork Angels continues that. |

AFTK is the one classic Rush album I quite dislike. Give me Signals any day...

Have to give it to Hemispheres, mainly due to the fact that it doesn't have a track like Cygnus X-1 Book I.

While we're creating fantasy Rush albums I have always hoped the gang would do a 2112 redux in which the song is expanded to album length as it always should have been. No matter how many times I play 2112, going from that to Passage To Bangkok never feels right.

Haven't heard Hemispheres yet, but Farewell To Kings is a favourite out of the albums that Geddy and that do.

I think hemispheres is just more consistent than a farewell to kings. All tracks on Hemispheres are gold. While A Farewell to kings has Xanadu and Cygnus X1 (some of Rush's best) Cinderella man and Madrigal do nothing to progress the album. hemispheres sounds more focused and cohesive.

Well AFTK has Xanadu which is my favourite Rush song but the songwriting on Hemispheres is a lot more cohesive and I find it overall more appealing. I think that the first Book of Cygnus X-1 meanders too much near the middle of the song and I don't really care for Cinderella Man that much.
