AFTK is the one classic Rush album I quite dislike. Give me Signals any day...

I am shocked by the hate for Cygnus X-1 Book 1. It's an obvious classic imo.

As for Signals being a classic, we can all have our own personal favourites (one person, the only female prog junkie I personally know actually, thinks Roll The Bones is their best album) but "officially" I think the Rush canon of classics is pretty much agreed to be 2112 to Moving Pictures and nothing on either side of that.

I will say that since Vapor Trails they seem to be experiencing a thoroughly unexpected late career renaissance. I hope Clockwork Angels continues that.

You know these are the only two Rush albums I have and after reading this thread I have to conclude that they are both crap and I should throw them out and never get any more Rush albums.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

It has cheese prog (Xanadu), cool prog (Cygnus X-1), three shorter but enjoyable pop tunes and one more piece sort of inbetween them all, A Farewell To Kings. Good lyrics too. No fat on that.

Hemispheres on the other hand... well... it's not terrible, but it's no five star classic and it's clearly not as good as AFTK imo. The Trees is just about one of the worst lyrics I've ever heard. Cygnus X-1 Book II is mostly good but has some dead air, not dynamic enough and the lyrics are kind of "almost", like there was potential for something great there but they stopped a few revisions short. La Villa Strangiata is nice but not even close to the titanic awesomeness of closing with the original Cygnus X-1.

And yet Hemispheres is rated higher than AFTK on PA. Tsk. You people.

Even though I don't fully agree to the text in bold, it probably is the answer to your own question. Albums on this site don't get 5 stars for being cheesy, or for containing pop songs. It wasn't named ProgArchives just because it sounds cool...

" A Kings Farewell to Hemispheres" is what I call it.......5+ Star dbl album.

How about "A Farewell to Hemispheres"

No......I like both albums very much and I play them almost weekly (along with many others in their catalog). Hemisphere is "half of a sphere".......my made up title is just the "King" acknowledging these 2 coming together as they should....in my world LOL

I am perfectly fine with what Rush have done over the past 35 yrs.

Catcher: A day or two before actually.

Angelo: Couldn't be more wrong about the cheese. A lot of PA members love their cheese.
