I'm torn between the ITCOTCK lineup and the Disipline lineup They really are basically different bands.
I guess I'll say the ITCOTCK lineup. Just because I like Giles' drumming more than Bruford. (Just a little though)

The whole Wetton era would have to be my vote too, particularly the Starless and Bible Black lineup. Red's my favourite album from that period, but I think David Cross was musically to that whole period.
I do wish the original lineup (Fripp/McDonald/Lake/Giles/Sinfield) made more than just the one album, because I feel like this version had much more in them. ITCOTCK is a classic, for sure, but to me feels short lived, and I wish there'd been more.
Oh yeah, Hi. I'm new.

Fripp, Bruford, Cross and Wetton. Fripp, Lake, McDonald, Giles and Sinfield following closely behind though.

It would obviously have to be Fripp/Wetton/Bruford/Cross

Guess what mine is.
Fripp-Bruford-Wetton-Cross!
They couldn't ALWAYS be at their best when improvising, but what line-up could be? As far as written stuff goes, they have the tightest, most melodic rockers, as well as the most enamoring soft stuff. Beat that!
I think "Starless and Bible Black" is the best Crimson album there ever was. No, it's not truly original and radical. But it's one of the most accessible AND most powerful (in BOTH hard rock and soft ambient areas) ever put out under this moniker, IMO. I know, but I don't care much, that lots of people have (an) issue(s) with that one.
And I don't know if you could call "Red" OFFICIALLY a F-B-W-C album since Cross quit, albeit he came back ephemerally.

Consensus on this seems to be Bruford, Wetton, Jobson, Fripp(the 73/74 lineup). Although I tend to agree that these were their best albums and the strongest lineup I think the very first lineup would maybe be a close second for me. After that they became unstable with Lake going on to form ELP and everyone else(except Sinfield)going off and doing other things.
Top five KC albums for me:
LTIA Red ITCOTCK ITWOP SABB
So for me it's a mixture of the very first albums and the mid seventies although I do admit the Bruford, Wetton lineup wins out.
I like LIzard a lot although that's the album where they started to get really weird imo. Even LTIA is pretty weird in places.

Sorry but there should be no debate here. The original line-up (Fripp, McDonald, Lake, Giles and Sinfield) produced a masterpiece that helped to define what progressive rock was about, created their first two most famous compositions ("21st century schizoid man" and "in the court..." and the beautiful "I Talk to the Wind". Their influence over the development of prog-rock is incalculable. If only, they had stayed together a little bit longer, one can only imagine the wonderful stuff they may have come out with.

But, for me, Poseidon was only a pale reflection of the debut, and in all equivalent parts, inferior. Even the title song, which I really like a lot (the only song I really like on this album) is rather inferior compared with "Epitaph" and "The Court". If the original line-up had actually stayed together as a creative force for the second album at least, I would think they might have made another real masterpiece... but we'll never know.

Discipline line-up: Bruford, Levin, Belew, and Fripp of course. No hesitation deciding.

Fripp, Bruford, Levin, Belew The trilogy is amazing. Excellent and diverse guitar work combined with Belew's voice makes the line-up wonderful
