I've had this Québécois band's debut album, Consonant, for quite a few months now but haven't gotten around to recommending it for the Archives.

They are a Canadian power-trio (never heard of one of those before!) who I'd think would be appropriate for Heavy Prog, or maybe Crossover.

"

ARTIST SUMMARY

Genres: Rock / Progressive Rock

ARTIST BIO

The progressive music of Opusculus strives to break free from conventional idioms while incorporating a wealth of influences from rock, jazz, latin, heavy rock, metal and classical.

Music here has no borders and no taboos. Rhythms, scales, grooves, riffs and melodies blend in an intricate and harmonious architectural ensemble.

FOR FANS OF:

RUSH, KING CRIMSON, TOOL, PORCUPINE TREE, PLANET X, LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, GUILT MACHINE, ALAN HOLDSWORTH, SYMPHONY X, CANDIRIA, and MANY MORE!!!".

They don't have much in the way of Youtube videos, but they do have streams of a few tracks on:

Their official website is here:  http://opusculusprog.blogspot.com/

What think you?

I'll probably beat you to it. I'm busy tonight and all of tomorrow, but Thursday afternoon I'm free, so I'll take a proper listen then.

That would be excellent, I don't have much time available these days. Thumbs Up

Great!
You posted the wrong link, though.  http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7151

Also, I'm not sure if the album is a 2011 or 2010 release.  The copyright on the CD says 2011, but their web site talks about it shipping in November 2010.  Their myspace page says it was released on October 26, 2010.  I'm going to see if I can contact them and get the real deal.

Oh, and you spelled the album name incorrectly as well.  Should be Consonant.

Quick response from the guys on their facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/Opusculus?sk=wall):
"Opusculus First, thanks for adding us to the Prog Archives. The official cd launch was held on the 19th of november 2010. Since it was so close to the end of the year, we decided that it would be appropriate to consider the album as a fresh early release from 2011. Sorry for the confusion."

So looks like 2011 is appropriate.

Heh, sorry about that. It was the other HP band I needed to make a note about. Embarrassed
And my, we're just full of mistakes now. It should be fixed now.

Greetings from Montreal!

I just wanted to send you guys a much belated thank you note for including our music on your site. It's always nice to see where Consonant travels, and most important, that it could find interested ears!

Opusculus was on hiatus for a couple of years due to conflicting schedules and life in general. I will spare you the details. But most important, the band is back at it with a record deal, a new album in the making and a 2017 Summer tour with Swedish prog-psychedelic-stoner Montgolfiere.

You can expect the same mixture of influences, but shorter songs. And we are sticking to the power trio format.

I will keep in touch with all the details. In the meantime, feel free to contact me with any question.

Keep up the excellent work, guys!

TAZ (Opusculus - Bass)
