The Musical Box, as much as I like Starless I just feel they've never pulled the ending off live or in studio, its just not chaotic or explosive enough.

The Musical Box beyond doubt. Indisputably one of the greatest tracks in all of progressive rock. Far more complex and interesting than Starless with tension and a climax that Crimson could never match, and Hackett's guitar playing makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Frankly, the less said about Starless the better. That's 11 minutes of my life I won't get back; I just can't listen to Fripp's repetitive and tuneless guitar playing any more. The first and last minutes have some interest; that's it.

Good match up. I picked Starless because it still makes my hair stand on end. The drama of Box has gotten slightly old to me, and musically the band were still a year or two away from their peak. Still a stone cold classic of course, and guaranteed to blow neophytes out of their chairs.

I would have thought Starless would be winning this... there was a time I thought that song was almost unbeatable within this forum. However, I do prefer Starless (specially live). On the other hand, if it had been set against Firth of Fifth... that would have been another story.
