Both bands ceme from the famous, or rather infamous Norwegian Black Metal Scene, but fortunately both bands went way beyond the limits of this genre and the best works of both bands cannot be called black metal at all.
I love the voice of Garm and Simen, and Arcturus was certainly a very interesting band, but in my opinion In the Woods.. makes the more rewarding listening. The were less accesible than Arcturus, but for a longer period of time their music offers more. |

I really like both bands, but Arcturus released the Sham Mirrors, a masterpiece in my opinion. In the Woods... can write some great haunting stuff, but no album of theirs comes close to being a masterpiece.

No album or Arcturus comes close to matching any of In the Woods... three, or their live album which is brilliant.

I just have Sham Mirrors from ARCTURAS which is a great album but In The Woods... gets my vote. They truly are an amazing band and have put out some fantastic music over the years.Strange In Stereo and especially Omnio are killer albums.

For the person who mentioned Solefald, 'The Linear Scaffold'...great stuff.
Good call.
Personally prefer Arcturus...as I'm a fiend for anything that Garm does. Ulver are superb. But 'In The Woods' did 'Omnio'...which I also like.
