Great album from 1969, I think.  It's avant proggish, psyche, classicalish, chamber rock,  jazz and raga elements and is quite eclectic and may be best suited to Crossover or Eclectic, or maybe Psyche.  It is rather Proto-Proggish, but I think it quite progressive (does help to listen to the whole album rather than concentrate on individual tracks and I haven't put these youtube tracks in order).  I'm not sure about placement, and hope to get some feedback.

Hope people enjoy it.

EDIT:

I have the album, out of print, and can pass to any team if interested.

Here's some more music off the album since I didn't see it come up on youtube before.

This is a tough one. Some tracks have a distinct psych flair, others a distinct jazz rock flair, while the rest seem to just have a proto-prog flavor but not much in terms of of prog or even rock in some cases. I'll need to revisit this or get a second opinion.

Doesn't the album art alone warrant inclusion?

Excellent music. Thumbs Up

Difficult to categorize under a specific prog genre though.

However, I was reminded of minimalist Terry Riley (and "A Rainbow in Curved Air") who is under prog related.

Alternatively, progressive electronic? Confused

My word, there is some truly celestial music in there. Heart I wouldn't expect anything less from a Greg suggestion, though (especially since he made me aware of Alice Coltrane's music). Wink

This doesn't sound "proto" to me, but fully progressive music. In my opinion it also fits the scheme of progressive rock, it's clearly not jazz or modern classical, but part of the pop-rock culture. The problem is how to assign it to our structure of sub-genres - now that's also something to expect from a suggestion by Greg. Tongue Well, IMO this is avantgarde tamed so much that it can reasonably be called "eclecticism". I'd suggest them to Eclectic, how does that sound to you guys?

To pin it down a bit more, the music reminds me of:
- Herbie's keyboard-lead experimental stuff
- Vangelis' early experimental albums
- the vocals are very Pink Floyd-esque
- there's a lot of Space rock / kosmiche influence I can hear in there

I think to have suggested them in the past, maybe a couple of years ago (but my memory can fail). It's also possible that I thought to suggest them ....Smoke

The Eclectic Team has approved The Open Window.  If anyone wishes to help with the bio, let me know.

Thanks. Good news, before I edited my first post after a day as I started to doubt myself more, I suggested it particularly for Eclectic, so glad it got accepted.

I would like to take care of the addition, and plan to start on that tomorrow.  I've been remiss that way when it's come to a number of my suggestions.

And thanks to Alex for such encouraging words and for bringing it to the Eclectic team's attention.

EDIT: Rather than bumping this with a  new post.  The Open Window now added to Eclectic.  http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7179
