The problem is now I can never listen to The Mothers of invention and not feel just the slightest bit of disgust when his whiny vocals kick inOuch and I´m a GIANT Zappa fan.

As am I.
I know what you mean, and we can accept musicians (or athletes, celebrities) not being good people generally, but this is a different level of badCry

I never listened to The Mothers, and thought wow who is that incredible bass player, anyway.  I can't help but think if someone I really liked did something heinous...

The lesser thinking populace and sensationalist media will certainly blame the music. Then again, Zappa stories don't really sell anymore. But what a slimeball.

Aha! I'm not a Zappa fan so it doesn't affect the way I listen to his music. I will simply continue to not be a fan.

Still, though, this is extremely not cool at all. I cannot stand knowing that people like him exist in this world, and I've already made it my duty to protect the world from these type of people when I finish college.

I've been a lifelong Zappa fan (especially the early Mothers) and have even met Roy Estrada, so this has been quite a shock for me.  As much as I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, nothing I've read about this leaves any room for thinking "well, maybe it's not as bad as it sounds"

Anyone see the Zappa movie "Baby Snakes?".  The scene with Roy and the blow-up doll has now assumed creepy proportions.... Sick

Has anyone else been thinking that this has been about Erik Estrada the whole time?

Yup. LOL

In any case, sick thing to do. It doesn't effect my opinion of their music though.

I was rather disappointed to realize it wasn't Erik for no reason in particular other than Eric isn't a prog musician as far as I know.

The person is rather irrelevant when faced with the fact that a child has been abused in either case isn't it?

Wow, just ran across this. I always thought he was a good bass player, not necessarily with The Mothers, but by the time he was playing with Beefheart (Clear Spot) and Little Feet he was more than competent. Didn't realize he was a child-molesting a****le engaged in what is probably the ultimate betrayal of trust. Assuming it's true (it's hard to wrap my brain around this) put him away for the rest of his sorry life and good riddance.

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

I thought I commented on this already. This will not affect my Zappa listening at all, especially because most of my favorite FZ albums do not feature Roy Estrada.

Although, I will probably laugh every time I hear the end of Illinois Enema Bandit on Zappa New York: "This is for Roy Estrada, wherever you are. Wunda wunda wunda winda wuuhhhhhh!"

In this case, it looks like he'll be in jail; the rest of his life.

^ or is that on Läther? Or both? It's been a while....

^^ That's on both.  They're the same version (12/29/76).  Maybe a slightly different mix.

OK cool. Yea, I know they have 2 different mixes, and I know Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me has the "f**k you buddy, f**k you very much" on Lather, which is cut out on ZNY; I wasn't sure if the other quote from Illinois Enema Bandit was cut out on ZNY too. Thanks for clearing that up.

Well thats more than just slightly depressing.

I'll still enjoy the music though.
