Oh man, poor guy, hope he's not doomed to country hop for all eternity. The sad thing is, often terrorists (erm real ones) and bad people in general can get asylum in some country, but watch no one take Snowden...due to pressure the US will apply.

Ecuador will take him. He'll be feted in Havana for a day or two, then on to Quito.

Guess it's awkward for the US government but really, kudos for taking him. Just hope nothing crazy goes down like a terrorist being discovered in Ecuador and he's accidentally killed in collateral drone damage, or they go Splinter Cell on him...

Nah, too obvious. Greenwald and whoever at the Post probably have all the documents anyway, ready to slow roll them. Smartest thing Snowden ever did was come out publicly right away - that way he can't get "disappeared" without everyone going apesh*t.

You can't clandestinely get rid of popular folk heroes through transparent accidents, especially not when you have a lot of trouble keeping your secrets secret.

Appears snow pat was indeed right, saw an article that Snowden almost certainly has more info that will be slow leaked with time.

Just so you know the ironies of power: my country of origin, Ecuador, beacon of freedom of expression, will probably soon give Snowden political asylum; that will be the second one, after Julian Assange from Wikileaks. One could say that Ecuador is really carrying the torch for freedom of expression in the world. Yet just last week a law was passed that seriously limits the ability of the press to say anything, giving enormous power to the government to sue or close newspapers and networks who print or air anything "false" or "offensive" or designed to injury the reputation of public officials (or anybody, in theory).

I think it goes for every country like that. Every country likes to harbor these people for their own political gains, but I really do feel that it could be worse for him than seeking asylum in Ecuador. Ecuador is much better than getting tortured and mistreated under the direction of the Feds.

^I agree, and even if I'm not too fond of Ecuador's government, I'm happy when a little country tells the US emperors Bush Obama Kerry Clinton Rice or whatever "f**k you, we do whatever the hell we want". For too long did every nation south of Mexico do the US' government bidding. It's sad that this is accompanied by atrocious socialist governments that hate internal freedom of expression but what can I say.
