It's not just Western Civilization.....
My tears are reserved, from a cultural point of view, to western culture. Of course many other things in other aspects of life are collapsing too.

I think what we got here is approaching perhaps the end of human civilization as we have lived through as it has existed the last 50 years. Bolshevism is a terrible manifestion of I think will come about.

Western civilization could use a collapse.

Ever since the development of nuclear missiles, we have to prop it up for now.

Mayor Bloomberg, as head of a good liberal city, is continuing to do what good liberals do....make more ridiculous infringements on rights!

A ban on large sodas.
It's pretty much universal for all venues.

Not only wrong, but as usual it's utterly silly because there's no ban on large other things that are bad for you.

Classic

Yeah, I'm sure that ban on large sodas is going to be a big gulp in the war against obesity. LOL

By the way, NYC is crawling with conservatives. Shocked

Crawling? I don't know if I'd say crawling but of course there's plenty.

Well first it's a city of what? 7 million people? So there's gunna be quite a number of everyone there, relative to the general population.
The only really conservative area though is Staten Island, though of course like any place there's plenty who aren't...they just don't get representedLOL   The last blue collar, old school italian place left in NYC.
Most of those have moved to Long Island, Westchester County, or NJ since the 1970s

Oh I love local politics too much...anywho point was it's a liberal city and since liberalism these days = making stupid ass laws telling us what we can/can't do...this is just going with the flow.

I'm sure the tall buildings are crawling with liberals.

Some laws telling us what we can or can not do are stupid, some are not. Wink

OK...the winky face indicates a joke, I guess, but you've lost meWink

Of course some laws make sense and are even good, but as I've said a hundred times, government is really just people...and as people we need to prove our worth, so everything ALWAYS gets taken overboard. Which is a shame when good laws do become jokes...

Here's what I'm getting at, there are no stupid laws only stupid people. WinkWink

Things don't always get taken overboard.

but that's more or less the same point : O
There ARE no stupid laws indeed, just stupid people.
Of course people are the government now aren't they?

Oh you and your f**kin semantics...
They don't always...but I'm not gunna split hairs here. They almost always go overboard. Again I think it's just human nature. You wanna excel at your job. You could do good work, but it's easier and looks better to suck up to the manager.
So why stop a law at a certain point? Or just do your job? Looks better to take things farther and farther.

Like drugs? Why make sensible drug legislation with input from doctors/scientists/medical help when you can just scare people into a frenzy and spend on useless commercials?

Part of the issue with giving government (people) too much power!

(certain)

My point is that we are mostly on the same side and yet splitting hairs.

Here's what I believe about laws, punishing people from screwing over other people, good.  Laws punishing people for harming themselves in reality or by someone else's imagination, bad.

If you are concerned about people having too much power, you might want to take a look at what the people with money to burn are doing.

I like police.

Had to have one out today for a minor incident.  Another very nice, polite person.  They have always been the case for me.  And I'm not all that charmingLOL

So, I'll take the cops in my hood Teo and you can have the crims if you prefer that.  Sounds good to me.Wink

My last encounter with the police was when I was felony arrested for stealing my own truck.  I have no complaints.

SlartLOL  that was awful situation.  Really glad it turned out OK for you.  I certainly would never say they're perfect, but some of the police-hate I read is just incredibly unfair and almost delusional.  In your case, I wouldn't blame you if you felt anti-cop, that was a big mistake they made.
