Very interesting smarty-pants rock group, with all sorts of arty and unexpected flourishes. Intricate lyrics, they make an effort with their videos too. Fans of XTC, Bloc Party etc may be interested and there may even be a teeny bit of prog in there, particularly Gentle Giant. They only have one album so far, Man Alive. I'll let the tracks speak for themselves- be sure to listen to more than one, the band's diversity is part of the point.

Trouserpress had suggested them around the time they came out with their new album.  Very interesting band, I am certainly looking forward to more from them.

I wasn't suggesting them for PA, I don't think they're prog. They've clearly listened to it though.

I like the Man Alive album. It's pretty quirky stuff. I like their use of harmonies.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Finally listening to it.   Love it already.  This band feels like a tidal wave of creativity within contemporary accessible/pop music.  Seems they peaked at no.5 on the UK charts....are they really that popular already there?

Math-pop ?

Not bad, but those r'n'b influenced vocals tend to irritate me in the long run.

They are fastidious about not sounding like anything else.   Taking to that to its logical extension, perhaps Jonathan Higgs tries to sing like no other singing one's ever heard.  Errrm, whether that's a good thing...Confused

^^  How do they manage all these layers of vocals live?  Which of the musicians double up as singers live?  I haven't even seen any clips of their live performances, hence the question.

from what i saw all of them...apart from the drummer on occasion.....the bass and guitar player are really good at the backing vocal job.

I've been into this band since the first album. Does anyone see strong similarities between them and the prog band called England (album:Garden Shed)?

Toto where quite good at that as well, different genre, but they knew how to add vocal harmonies, and vocal arrangements. And also 10cc are really good at that, spessialy the overdubbing on Im Not In love Big smile

Hmm..not my cup of tea...too much slick hip hop and r&b influence in their music for me. I don't hear that much XTC either ...who I'm a fan of.
Someone mentioned England -Garden Shed above ....I don't hear any significant connection to that old prog band who sound like Yes for the most part.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.
